Common Ringed Plover, Morro Bay Sandspit, 10/2

The plover is a male in breeding plumage. It was present to at least 12:15 today in approximately the same location it was found yesterday, which is about 4 miles north of the sandspit parking lot off Pecho Valley Road in Montana de Oro State Park. The GPS coordinates for the bird’s location this morning are 35.3515401, -120.8622091. Be aware that the walk on the beach is on soft sand and the high tide tomorrow is 5.0 ft at 11:19 AM. There is cell service from the sandspit.

The gate for the parking lot is suppose to open at 0800 hours, however this morning a ranger opened it at 7:15 AM – I have no idea why or it one could count on that this weekend. One person rented a kayak this morning, paddled cross the Morro Bay, and walked in from the north to shorten the hike.
