- Comments: "Bird first seen soaring over open country about one mile south of Panorama Road. Bird only observed from underneath. Shape and flight characteristics different than red-tailed and ferruginous hawks, which were also seen this day. When soaring, appeared to hold wings in a slight dihedral. Wings appeared longer and narrower than the other two Buteo species seen this day. Wingbeats were fluid rather than stiff, and bird traveled in relatively small circles while apparently searching for prey. Bird dominantly white underneath. Tail white at base with a distinct black terminal band."
