Subject: [SDIBP] Yesterday's SDIBP Meeting

Thanks everyone who joined us for the launch of SDIBP (San Diego Independent Business Professionals) the "repurposing" of the "Beach Area Self-Employed" group.

At yesterday's presentation Greg Clowminzer did a bang up job on his presentation of "State of Mind for High Performance Self-Employment". More than 20 people showed up on a rainy afternoon nearly swamping the venue and we pretty much took over Charlie's Best Bread. It was a really nice "positive energy" meeting with lots of networking and I hope we can have more like it. As an experiment I tried to video the talk. The quality isn't great and i didn't get all of it, but you can get a flavor at this link: https://youtu.be/E0g5B-vpbAQ

A few people asked if they could get the attendance list form this meeting - I will try to to that over the weekend. In the meantime don't forget that we have set up this communication platform and don't be afraid to use it as long as whatever you post is related to small business or self-employment.

Please consider uploading your standard "face shot" and say a few words about yourself or your business on your profile. The formun can be accessed completely through email or you can use the online site - the links should be at the bottom of this message.

Really appreciate the support we have gotten recently. Hope everyone is having a fantastic Friday.

Quick Primer on NLP for Independent Professionals

San Diego Independent Business Professionals (SDIBP) will be meeting next Thursday, February 21, 1:30 PM at "Charlie's Best Bread" in Pacific Plaza (1808 Garnet between Kendall Street & Lamont Street).  T

This month's presentation will be an introduction to "Neuro-linguistic Programming". NLP is a school of thought about how states of mind affect communication and behavior and how these states are revealed in our language and non-verbal communication. It is a wonderful "secret weapon" that can be used in almost any kind of business situation. Carson Cooper, of "Genius Unlocked Coaching Institute" will be giving us an overview of this approach to communication with an emphasis on how it can be used by self-employed professionals.

SDIBP is for independent contractors, freelance workers, small business owners (including home based) and anyone else working outside of the traditional employment system. It was previously named "Beach Area Self-Employed" but is being expanded to be a regional association with improved online and virtual services in addition to this monthly real-world meeting.  Our meetings are partly informal networking and partly a moderated discussion on a small business topic.

There is no charge (support the venue) and anyone is welcome to attend. Since we know how much self-employed folks value their time, everyone is generally in and out within one hour. This is a great opportunity to learn something new while meeting some really smart and creative local professionals so we hope you will consider joining us.

REMINDER: You have been invited to the San Diego Independent Business Professionals meeting tomorrow in Pacific Beach at Charlie's Best Bread. The topic is '" a primer in neurolinguistic programming" but don't let that scare you - it is actually an interesting communication technique that I have used to improve my writing. Don't let the weather scare you either - it is supposed to rain so bring an umbrella and allow a little extra time for driving. It rained last month also but we had a great turnout and great networking. The full description is pasted below. Hope to see you there.

Two hours from now -  looks like we might have a break in the rain but bring your umbrella :-)

I wanted to mention that the calendar invitation I sent out included a link to join by video conference.   We actually will be recording the meeting - and technically it will be live on Youtube - but I don't think that link will work so you will have to join us in real life.  Let me know if you are sensitive about cameras so we can avoid but really there is not much to be concerned about - 99.9 percent of Youtube videos get zero views, and at most only a handful of people will see it - and even then probably only part of it.  It is a technology I want to use so that eventually people in other parts of town or who can't make it for other reasons can drop by virtually.

Today's meeting should be interesting.  If you are on the fence, consider joining us.

How the self-employed can discover their purpose, calling and passion

San Diego Independent Business Professionals (SDIBP) will be meeting on Thursday, March 21st, 1:30 PM at "Charlie's Best Bread" in Pacific Plaza (1808 Garnet between Kendall Street & Lamont Street).  Please mark your calendar.

This month's presentation will be by Jeff Blanton who is an author, speaker, serial entrepreneur and leading authority on value-driven growth and purpose-driven leadership. Jeff will present a framework he has developed to help his clients discover their true path of "purpose and calling" that leads to success and significance. Most independent professionals have made the choice to lead their own enterprise but does it provide personal and professional meaning and impact? Come and learn how to discover and align your personal purpose, calling and passion to create "significance driven success".

Effective Email Strategies for Self-Employed Professionals

Hi Everyone,

Please mark your calendar.  SDIBP (San Diego Independent Business Professionals) will be meeting in one week on Thursday, April 18th, 1:30 PM at "Charlie's Best Bread" in Pacific Plaza (1808 Garnet between Kendall Street & Lamont Street).

This month's presentation will be by Austin Beals, CEO of "Power Up" - an email marketing company. Austin will describe how independent professionals can use the same methods used by big companies to build up their self-employed practice. The one thing we have in common is using email with customers and prospects, so anything we can learn to be better at it is bound to be of great benefit. Austin will also lead a discussion with our members on this topic - our problems, issues and approaches to give us a chance to learn from each other, so you won't want to miss this important meeting.

Hope to see you there

Rob

Re: Unable to make it Thursday

Hi @Bryna Kranzler  No worries, we really appreciate your support.  Hope to catch you next time.

@Larisa Hall  SDIBP (San Diego Independent Business Professionals)  s a "repurposing" of the old BASE (Beach Area Self-Employed).  We kept getting attendees from other parts of the region and I realized there are few groups in San Diego representing independent professionals.  Your company may be more on the "small business" side of the spectrum, but we appreciate your support as well. This month's meeting is about the effective use of email - I think you mentioned that you just started with a new CRM so you might want to swing by - same place - Charlie's Best Bread at 1:30 pm this Thursday.

This change was announced - several times, but I take responsibility for any confusion.  After I migrated this user base from Google Groups I intended to do more "community development" - online and off, but things kept coming up in both my business and personal life that caused delays - I am sure you can relate.

SDIBP is my top priority for this week though, so you may be getting some updates even before the meeting.  Hope you and others can make it on Thursday.
