REMINDER: Tomorrow at 1:30 PM, San Diego Independent Business Professionals (SDIBP) will be meeting "Charlie's Best Bread" in Pacific Plaza (1808 Garnet between Kendall Street & Lamont Street).

This will be the last meeting of the year but our first political discussion and will cover recent political developments and legislation that affect independent and self-employed professionals. This includes the AB5 (California Assembly Bill 5) that makes it harder for companies to classify workers as independent contractors rather than employees. This may affect the way many of us do business as well as our future plans and the bigger question of what exactly it means to be "independent" in this new legal and political environment.

This discussion will be led by Austin Evans who is a partner of Life Law Partners - a corporate law firm serving life-science, technology and startup companies. Austin has long been an ally of businesses as they enter into new regulatory environments and navigate challenges associate with changes to labor law. He will provide an overview of the AB5 law and other regulations that affect independent professionals and offer some strategies on doing business with big corporations who have also been affected by this law.

This is an important meeting so try to make it if you can whether or not you have any knowledge of these changes. As always we will allow for time before and after the meeting for some light networking and getting to know other self-employed and independent professionals.

Hope to see you there.
