ARRL DX Contest 2023
The ARRL DX Contest was on last weekend. I had good success across 10, 15 & 20m with 554 US & Canadian stations worked over 15 hours for just over 182,000 points. Some nice pile ups on 10 & 15m, biggest one 97 stations worked in 40 mins. 40 & 80m were very poor, nothing heard from the US, very odd ... I'm now close to WAS but still missing North & South Dakota, Idaho and Montana.
This contest is slightly unique, in that you are only allowed to work North American stations, and the exchange for non-US stations is 59 plus your RF power. The lowest power I heard mention was 1W, the highest 1000 (mmm right). It's also typical that the US stations just expect you to know the abbreviation of their state ...
FlexRadio 100W, hexbeam @ 10m, unassisted
Anybody else take part? I heard Ian a few times (G3YBY / TM5T) from France, I think he did very well on 15m.

Hi Marc,
Very well done! Great effort!
I didn't take part this year as had a lot of other things to do over the weekend. Spent a bit of in between chores grabbing a few large squares using FT4... just doing a bit of damage limitation on the 'worked all large squares' knowing that you and few others
would for sure be bumping your totals up with the big contest this weekend 😉
For North Dakota keep a listen out for KH6XX/W0. I have heard a few times and worked on 15m SSB with my little setup, so I'm sure you'll make that one pretty easily.
All the best,
Neal

On 15m I managed 103 Qs with 34 multipliers to earn 10506 points.
Single band Assisted Low Power using the IC9100, 100W and a Hamstick dipole at 8m in the garden.
As there was no front to back rejection on that antenna, I had the benefit of all the Europeans beaming over the top of me including a Sicilian contest club who were exchanging 59 100, but who sounded as if they missed off the kW after the 100!!
I’m not sure how this result will stand up, but it is way more that last year’s entries in the same section.
In reference to your comment about state abbreviations, one of the Canadians was giving NF, for Newfoundland, but on the ARRL list it shows as NL. It will be interesting to see how that gets scored.

Hi Marc,
Well done on your score. Condx certainly seemed very good on all 3 HF bands.
I just did a single band 15m entry and just missed out on one state which was as usual North Dakota.
If you haven't already done so you can post your claimed score on 3830scores.com so you can compare how you did with others in your particular section. You can also look back at previous contests you posted as well.
73 from a very wet SW France today.
Ian F5VKT / TM5TWell done Marc and the others.
I was 'tinkering' in the shack, wasn't taking part as such, but I worked about a dozen US and a couple of Canadian stations up on 10m.
I think at some stage this year I'll need to revisit my HF antennas. Although I do 'OK' on the mixture of vertical, 20m Inverted V and sloping L EFLW, all of them were supposed to be 'temporary' antennas about 5 years ago, but because they all worked 'OK' I have just continued to use them, but I really think I should put something better up. I've got the Baby Ciro Loop sitting in the garage that needs mounting, so I might actually get round to putting that up this year. I just need to put in a small concrete base for the ground-mounted rotator cage for it.
Just need some spare time to do all this stuff!
