John

Very sorry to hear of your wife's injury. I really hope it mends speedily and she is not in too much discomfort.

As for the VNAs, thanks for yet more useful input to this topic. All useful information is definitely grist to the purchaser's mill.

Regret, presentation about the V&A not recorded !

If you are worried about clones then, when they have it back in stock, you could purchase it from Mirfield Electronics. It may be more expensive than buying from China but, as a UK supplier, it may be easier to return it if you are unhappy.
Not sure if their models go as high as Dom's so it may depend on you having the need for 3Ghz
A lot of people change the FW from Hugen to DisLord.

Was the presentation recorded as, unfortunately I could not attend as the night before my wife fell breaking her arm and badly knocking her head?

However, just re-found this attached post in the forum for the SAA 2N. So it is buyer beware. It says that Zeenko is to be avoided but that is where I bought mine and it is superb. I bought mine in November 20.
Roy's is the same (not sure where he bought it) but it has more memory for storing and recalling calibrations - 8 on his, 5 on mine. Software updates are available but can be tricky to install.

Warning about cheap underperforming clones

As of September 2021 there are many clones on the market. These clones do not go through any quality control and most perform badly. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts. If a clone is selling for much cheaper than the official store it will likely not meet specifications.

All V2.2/V2_2 are clones! See official stores below and look for V2 Plus/Plus4 versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling older versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

Important: Zeenko is selling S-A-A-2 based designs without permission and in violation of our non-commercial license, with exaggerated specifications. The original V2_2 design was open sourced to help hobbyists learn, but Zeenko's actions force us to close source later designs. Please reconsider supporting this vendor.

Note: All listings on Amazon that are not V2Plus4 are bad clones, please be aware!

Note: All listings on Amazon that are not V2Plus4 are bad clones, please be aware and don't be fooled by reviews from over a year ago, most clones have since switched to salvaged or reject parts and are much more noisy that you are better off buying a V1 NanoVNA instead!

Thanks for the results of that added research, Mike.

That will be helpful for those now deciding they "need" one !

Seems they are out of production by Zeenko but a few of the last batch are turning up on on Banggood, Amazon and Aliexrpress. Likely will soon be gone. This design was licenced and improved by OwOComm who also produced a free software package called NanoVNA-QT specifically for this model and is better than some other packages. You can also use NanoVNA-saver software but some updates do not work with V2 or V2,2 units.

Buying a non-cloned vna today means buying one of the Hugen designed units. These have a lower noise level and claimed better software. I cannot find one with N type connectors; only sma.
They are available with a choice of 2.8 and 4 inch displays. Some models have higher max frequency or specialist features.
The 2.8 inch display models are just over £50 now and the 4 inch display models between £70 and £134.

Following on from Den's excellent talk about Nano VNAs, I thought I'd post the details of the version which Mike, G4HGV, Roy, G4VWG and I have. We all have the Nano VNA  V2, SSA-2N, which has the metal case and N Type connectors. It will support up to 3Ghz. I've been extremely happy with mine and it works incredibly well. It looks like they've gone up quite a bit in price since I bought mine, but I think it's well worth the investment.

I bought mine from Banggood and it arrive within about a week.

If anyone wants to take a look, then I can bring it up the club. I was using it there a couple of weeks ago when I was testing the 49:1 Balun.
