Looking for Housing

Archpriest John Whiteford

Merilee and Garrett Eidson are in need of temporary emergency housing. They are currently living in a hotel and can stay until the end of October. They are seeking a room rental beginning in November that would last no longer than three to four months while they continue to seek advanced medical care, permanent housing and employment.

They are able to contribute financially and would like to find a mutually beneficial arrangement. They are husband and wife, nonsmokers, with no children or pets. They have no preference for where in the Greater Houston Area they stay and will happily live anywhere our parishioners live.

While Merilee is experiencing physical limitations, the housing does not need to be wheelchair accessible or ADA compliant. She can manage stairs to get to a second story, but would need an elevator for a third story or higher.

If you or anyone you know are interested, please contact Garrett Eidson at:

Babysitting / Visits for the Clines

Jennifer Companik

Dear Parish Family,

To support the Clines after the birth of their daughter Alice, they would like volunteers to visit and spend some time playing with their elder daughter Euphemia.  The best time to visit would be between 3:00 and 6:00pm on Tuesdays or Thursdays. It is fine for moms with children to bring their own children to the visit. If you would be able to have a play visit with them, please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0D45AAAA2BA0FD0-visits.

Prayers for Monastery Threatened by Wildfire

Fr. David Companik

Dear church family,
Matushka and I received the following urgent message from Juliana Chrisanthus regarding the Theotokos of the Life-Giving Spring Greek Orthodox Monastery in California, which we visited back in May. The Abbess and Sisterhood were very hospitable and loving toward us.
---
I've just received word that Abbess Markella and her sisters have been forced to evacuate the monastery in Dunlap because of severe, threatening fires in the area . Please remember her and the 30 sisters in prayer and please feel free to share this message and ask others to pray for Mother Markella and the sisterhood of the Life Giving Spring!

Good evening Matushka,

I will come to the baptism but it looks like it’s just going to me, not Gabriel or the kids.

Dear Church family,

On behalf of the godparents of Elias Northcutt (son of Dean and Brittany Northcutt), they would like to cordially invite you to join them in welcoming him into the Church at his baptism this Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 10 a.m.

Due to Brittany's complication before Elias' birth, the Sisterhood was not able to throw her a nice baby shower; if you would like to bring a baby gift, you can do so with a Target gift card or money - please do not feel obligated at all.

Please RSVP to me privately to help the godparents to get a headcount to prepare enough food at the reception.  God bless you all as we pray for a grace filled baptism and celebration of a new life.

Matushka Patricia

Re: 40 Days for Life Prayer Vigils

Fr. David Companik

Dear parish family,
Glory to God! Through the prayers of the Mother of God, who granted us good weather and a peaceful vigil, we prayed outside Planned Parenthood in Houston yesterday. 14 parishioners were present, counting children, and all were glad to have attended. Praying for the living and departed souls who have suffered from the scourge of abortion, we felt assured of God's mercy toward all.
We look forward to our next prayer vigil on Tuesday, October 12th from 2:30 - 4:30 PM. Please join us if you can!

With Fr. John's blessing, Matushka Jennifer and I have volunteered on behalf of St. Jonah's to participate in the 40 Days for Life Prayer Vigils outside the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Houston. (Learn more about the 40 Days for Life organization here: https://www.40daysforlife.com/en/)

On Tuesday September 28th, 8:30 to 10:30 AM, and again on Tuesday October 12th, 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, I will lead those present in the service of the "Akathist to the Mother of God, Softener of Evil Hearts", and the "Akathist for the Repose of the Departed". Even if you can't attend both days, or for the full 2 hours, you and your family are most welcome to join us.
