question for 22mtk users.

Jim Noseworthy

Are the effects sent out the USB with the main mix?

Thanks.

Well depends.

Another one with the 12 mtk. The way you can use the fx, eq, pan etc on the board to print to a recording is by receiving your audio from the PC to the individual usb returns. Set everything how you want and mix it down back to the pC on tracks 13/14. 23/24 in your case.

So in reaper for example you'd set the output for each track to a usb out on the board.

Set the usb return button on those tracks on the board.

Add any fx you want in reaper on those tracks too if you like.

Make your adjustments, arm a track with inputs 23/24 and record.

Otherwise, when just laying down tracks, the audio interface is post gain but pre fader eq and fx.

You can of course just use it as an analogue board bipassing the audio interface with the master outs connected to a separate interface.

Chris:

Thanks much.

So other than through a DAW, I gather that one cannot send the effects to a program such as Zoom, TeamTalk ETC?

Thanks all over the place.

Yeah, I'm not sure how you would set it up to use the effects over zoom or the like. Except just using it as an analogue desk connected to another interface of course.

Possibly with some sort of wrangling with virtual audio cable. Actually I have a similar question to ask about this.

Yes Chris:

I had that problem with the 12 mtk but I thought that the 22 mtk might do that.  I don’t think that the USB driver permits loopback but I may be wrong, as I often am.

Cheers.

Hey guys, for the 22MTK, there is a way to send the FX through to the main mix returned through USB.  Just be sure that  the two FX bus channels are unmuted, and the main L+R button is enabled for sending to mains.  It will, then, return with channels 23 and 24.
If you are looking to return the FX independantly to the DAW on it's own set of channels, you will lose your last two stereo return TRS channels, 17/18 and 19/20 to do this, but its' possible.

What you will do is set your FX to send to the sub groups, and return the stereo outputs from the sub groups to respected input chanels, unmute the channels, send them to USB and remove them from the main L+R mix.    Since the sub groups are either stereo or mono, you will want to use whatever suits your fancy.    The configuration is as follows:

1. Patch group 1 L out into channel 17 and group 1 R out into channel 18 using standard TRS cables.
2. Patch group 2 L out into channel 19 and group 2 R out into channel 20 using standard TRS cables.
3. be sure that groups 1 and 2 are not sending to mains via the buttons abover the group faders, also be sure they are set to mono or stereo, depending on your preference.
4. On FX strip 1, be sure that Main L+R is disabled but group one send is enabled.
5. on FX Strip 2, be sure that Main L+R is disabled, but group send 2 is enabled.
6. On channel strip for 17/18 be sure that all physical sends are disabled, but USB send is enabled.
7. Repeat step 6 for channel strip 19/20
8, set group faders to unity.
9, adjust your fx levels using fx faders, and this will send to separate  USB outs for fx only on channels 17/18 for fx 1, and 19/20 for FX 2.

If you are referring to on the console it's self, then yes.  Any channels you send to main L+R will send to headhones.  There's a separate button you must press to enable sending to USB.

If you are wanting to only hear specific things in headphones individually, then you will use the PFL buttons dedicated to each channel.    This will send just that channel to headphones when enabled..  You can send multiple channels via PFL to headphones as well, but it is not in stereo.

I’m not sure that I made myself clear.

My question is, can you decide which channels will and will not be sent to the USB summing channels but still hear them all through the headphones jack.

I was not able to accomplish that with the 12MTK.

I was able to press the USB return button for each channel to prevent that channel from being sent to the USB summing channels but then I was unable to monitor that channel through the headphones.

So I guess what I am asking is, is there a dedicated button for enabling/disabling each channel from being sent to the USB summing channels.

Thanks all over the place.

In other words you want to be able to listen to the channel strip on the board but not send it to USB.    Yes, you can do that.    Each channel has a Send to USB button on it, as well as a USB return button.  Just be sure the send to USB button is disabled, and as long as the main L+R button is enabled on the channel strip, it will come through the headhones jack on the board.

Yes, you can.

Press the USB Return button on the channel you want to send the effect out, and it will go out over Zoom.

Chris:

Thanks much.

So other than through a DAW, I gather that one cannot send the effects to a program such as Zoom, TeamTalk ETC?

Thanks all over the place.

You don’t need Virtual Audio Cable to do it.

I wrote up a tutorial in the Dropbox on it, and this also applies to effects.

All the best

Yeah, I'm not sure how you would set it up to use the effects over zoom or the like. Except just using it as an analogue desk connected to another interface of course.

Possibly with some sort of wrangling with virtual audio cable. Actually I have a similar question to ask about this.
