Actually 2244 is the lead unit.  I caught it early yesterday afternoon west of Point.  They were rolling right along, you mean it took this long for a stack train to make it that far?

La Crosse Dispatcher just said there's an officer's special called for 11:30 at La Crosse. I assume it's going east.

Stack train, making lots of noise for (presumably) 119 construction. No idea on power, hopefully it's good!

Train was stopped in Pwk for about 15 min before the cops showed up. They were given bum info when the train was supposed to be arriving. According to ATCS, they were over the Pwk switch when the PD DS first radioed out to the cops for an intercept. Who knows if they jumped off before getting here or while waiting here. A continuing story. 277 on the move at this time.

Oil boom gives railroads new life

Article by: ADAM BELZ , Star Tribune Updated: August 18, 2012 - 5:33 PM
Trains are transporting sand for oil drilling from Wisconsin and Minnesota.

http://www.startribune.com/business/166656556.html?refer=y

MERON, WIS. - The last time a train crawled east out of Cameron, rolling through town at about 5 miles per hour, a railroad worker stood on the front of the locomotive, peering at the warped rail and broken ties to make sure the train wouldn't slip off the track.

The railroad gave the line over to weeds and saplings for more than a decade. The state almost turned it into a bike trail.

But now Canadian National Railway is spending $35 million to rebuild the track. Why? Frac sand.
