Re: Surnames in Podhajce
Stephen, Hi.
The reason I’m reaching out to you is because my surname is also Baumrind and I would like to find out if we are related. You seem to know the Baumrind’s family History and since it’s not such a common name, I’d be eager to find out more.

Hello,
Looking for the surname Talenfeld. Not sure from Podhajce or Berezany. Look at the pic attached- the shop behind the people is Aron Talenfeld's.

STEPHEN BAUMRIND
Hi Moshe. Perhaps, if you can give me as much of your lineage as possible (Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, etc.) I'll be able to see if your group fits with mine. It would also help to know where your family lived in the 1800s, and where you live now. There are several Moshe Baumrinds in my family also. Regards, Stephen

Stephen, I came across your comments about Shulem Baumrind while researching his Congregation Massas Benjamin. I have been looking into the my family history recently. I'm Tim's son, Valerie's grandson, Elliot's great grandson, Max's 2nd great grandson, and Shulem is my 3rd great grandfather.
Would you be able to help me fill in the gaps in my knowledge about Shulem and his family?

STEPHEN BAUMRIND
Hello Christopher, Your Grandmother Valerie was a great favorite of mine, and my first cousin. Uncle Elliot and my father Harold were brothers. Their father Max was the son of Rabbi Shulem Baumrind, grandson of Mordechai Baumrind, and great grandson of Rabbi Moshe Baruch Bezin. When I was 12 Max told me I was the 7th oldest son. Since I've given you the 6 generations I know, I'm still looking for that 7th oldest son (Rabbi Moshe Baruch Bezin's father). If, in your searches, you find him, please let me know. Hope this helps. Captain Stephen J.Baumrind, USCGR=RET (the full title). Your Mom called me Steve.

Re: Surnames in Podhajce

Jean,
Chag sameach to you and all. I am using this non-work day to do some long-overdue catch up, including all-things Podhajce. Your email below prompted me to follow the link, and to the page about Congregations Massas Benjamin. On that page I found the following about the shul:
This info is news to me, important to me, and sent shivers down my spine: Shimon ("Zygmunt" or "Sigmund") Einstoss was my great uncle. Yisroel ("Sruel" or "Irving") Einstoss (known by Greenberg, Golda's maiden name, as required by then-applicable-in-Podhajce Austro-Hungarian law), was my maternal grandfather. Both of them were machers in the smoked fish industry, which I imagine was how they had the means to contribute to the construction of the shul.
This group continues to be a blessing.
Jon

Ehrlichs or Besens of Podhajce
Clifford Goodstein
JRI-Poland has a record of the marriage of my great (x2) grandparents, Berl Ehrlich and Rywka Lef. Through DNA I have found Rykwa's brother and his descendants, but I'd like to find relatives of Berl other than his son, Simon Ehrlich (my great grandfather). Berl's parents are listed as Israel and Fulie.
Separately, Simon came to the US and married a fellow Podhajce emigrant, Chaya Ethel Besen, who, according to her marriage record, is the daughter of Gedalie Besen and Chane Kerber. I am aware of Chaya's brother Joseph Leibisch (Leon) Besen who married Gussie/Goldie Gang and came to NYC, and their descendants, but I'd like to find other Besen relatives. There are a lot of Podhajce Besen records on JRI-Poland but I don't know of their descendants. If you think we could be a connection, please let me know. My DNA test is posted on Ancestry, Gedmatch, FTDNA, and MyHeritage. Thanks Cliff Goodstein
