Hi,

My great-grandmother, Genia Vogelman (nee Grunberg), daughter of
Zvi & Miral
Grunberg (nee Katz), was born in Podhajce. Unfortunately, I
know very
little about the family beyond some basic information, but I'd
like to know
what information you may have.

Scott hi
My grandmother was Mathilde Gruenberg, born in Podhjace, around 1890. Apparently she was the daughter of a wealthy trader. She married David Zimet, also born in Podhajce.  I have very little information about my grandmother and her relationships within Podhajce other than this. She became a refugee in UK.

Jeff... I know we had some correspondence some time ago regarding Michael Dunn, but I couldn't find it. The info you posted below came from a tree that I developed from emails that Michael sent me.

The good news is that I found some (most, not all) of the email correspondence Michael and I had starting in December of 2005 and ending in late April 2006. After that date, I have nothing. I think there are more than 20 exchanges.

I am more than willing to send you copies of these emails. There's considerable information about Michael's family in there which you may find useful.

I can put it all in a .pdf file for you if you like.

Best,
Jerome Schatten

The Tailor of Inverness - Krawiec z Inverness

zajac_matthew <zajac_matthew@...>

Dear Podhajce group,

I am an actor based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

I have just joined the group, having been directed towards it by a lady in Florida called Jean Rosenbaum.

I'm not Jewish - my father was a Pole from a village called Gnilowody, about 8km from Podhajce/Pidhaytsi. His father was a Polish farmer, Andrzej Zajac and his mother was Ukrainian, Zofia, nee Baldys.

I only discovered the Ukrainian side of my heritage when I visited Podhajce and Gnilowody 7 years ago. Since then, I have writen a play about my father's life, The Tailor of Inverness, which I perform with a violinist. It won several awards at the 2008 Edinburgh Festival and has toured to Australia and Sweden. I have revived it for this year's Einburgh Festival and its playing there right now, every day until August 30th. In October, my company will take the production to Ukraine, Poland and Germany, playing at the Golden Lion Theatre Festival, Lviv; Volhynia University, Lutsk; Konfrontacje Teatralne, Lublin; the English Theatre, Berlin and the Thespis Festival, Kiel. We may also perform the play in the secondary school in Podhajce.

The play deals with my father's journey from Galicia to Inverness in Scotland. There are several versions of his story, its like peeling an onion. the multi-ethnic nature of life in Gnilowody and Podhajce before the war is featured in the play, with an evocation of the wartime conflagration, along with contemporary video footage of these places.

For more details about the show, please visit our company website: www.dogstartheatre.co.uk

Best wishes,
Matthew Zajac

Rosmarin - Grinberg/Gruenberg - Einstoss -Fishbein - Keller

Greetings all.

Kudos to Jean and Jerome for setting up the group.

My maternal grandparents were from Podhajce: Paulina ("Pepcha" or "Pepi") Rosmarin, daughter of Baruch and Chana (nee Blum) Rosmarin; and Irving ("Israel" or "Sruel") Greenberg, son of Golde Greenberg and Moishe Einstoss.

My grandfather left Podhajce in 1913 and came to NYC; he returned after WWI to find and marry my grandmother. They returned to NYC together in 1921.

My grandmother had two brothers: Philip, who died in WWI in the Austro-Hungarian army; and Josef ("Juza") who with his wife and daughter were victims of the Holocaust. There were other female Rosmarin cousins, one of whom married one of Jean's relatives.

My grandfather had one brother, Zygmunt ("Shimon"), who left Podhajce for NYC in the early 1900s, and a number of sisters.

I am cousins to Kellers and Fishbeins and perhaps a few of you!

Jon Brooks

In order not to fill your inboxes with these attachments, I have chosen to strip the attachments from the distributed emails and collect them in various folders available on the site.

That said, I've never run a Yahoo group before so you may get some things sent inadvertently while I figure out exactly how things work.

If you wish, I can drop you from the mailings temporarily -- just send me a note, and I'll do so. Feel free to experiment if you wish.

I guess I should have added that you can always go to the group home page: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/podhajce/
and from the menu on the left hand side of the page, click on 'Post'.

Fill in your message and click on 'Send' at the bottom right (or top right) of the page. I then get a notice that the message is waiting. I check to see it isn't spam, and then approve it, and everyone gets a copy. Either way, from your email account or by web, all messages are looked at.

Best,
j.

Good morning.
Looking for Frida Stadtmauer Perl from Podhajce
there are three photographs of her in the Podhajce Yizkor book.
Evidently she made aliya in the 1930s.
I would be interested in speaking to any of her descendants as I am researching
the Stadtmauers from Podhajce.
All the best.
