The Bike Bendigo Community Ride for tomorrow, December 8, starts at 10am from the Golden Square Swimming Pool, and runs to near Harvey Norman, Kangaroo Flat to a playground near where you head to Crusoe Reservoir - but we are not going that far. Return is back to the pool. You'll probably find a map on the Bike Bendigo Facebook page.

Yes, finally got my system handling posts in both directions.  Took a software
upgrade and some DNS configuration. :)

My trike is now back in operation with a few modifications, the weather is not as wet as it was, and it is now time to plan the Elmore trip.

Heath cannot do Thursdays and Robert (not subscribed yet) cannot do weekdays. That basically leaves weekends for the largest group of riders. This Saturday looks like it might be doable, not too hot, although there may be a 20kmH headwind for the return. I would suggest an early start, say no later than 9am from Bendigo. What say anyone interested in this somewhat delayed ride?

I have been working "behind the scenes" for quite a while on my eLecTricks trike. It was put on hold due to testing a few things on my Warrior so that they would be ready for when the time came, sort of making progress without it being visible. However, I am now back into working on eLecTricks.

eLecTricks things that are now installed on the Warrior for testing:

Arduino-controlled lighting. Working well but a few convenience modifications for the future.
Installation of a 10.1" tablet for navigation, speed display, whatever tablets can do. Just great.
12V battery and main trike battery monitoring. Can now see what is happening.
Completely replaced the mid-drive with the Hilgo transmission from eLecTricks - modified. I have another implementation for eLecTricks to make installation even easier. I have used it for about 30km and it works great.
A 10W solar panel for topping up the 12V battery.
5V USB power supplies. Some modifications required for the future.

A transporting system has been fitted to my 6x4 trailer to make loading/unloading very easy. Easily modified for carrying two trikes.

Testing these items on the Warrior has been very revealing and I have decided to "reinvent" eLecTricks to make the end result even better. The MTB rear end is being replaced with a new rear end, designed to accommodate the Hilgo transmission and other components. As it stands at the moment, the rear dropouts and chainstays have been made, the transmission and rear suspension pivot have been designed, the front suspension is where I left off. The next step, today, is to get a couple of spacers made so that I can get the combined rear suspension pivot and mid-drive completed.

I will use this chat for updates on the build. It has been a long time coming but should now move forward reasonably quickly by comparison. Feel free to comment as you see fit. I might create a special photo album for the build. SLA Battery Rejuvenation #chat

Hi All.

Do any of you have any sick SLA batteries? I recently discovered that my two 9AH SLAs had become more than a little sick after sitting around for a while and were not appropriately responding to charging. They were also immediately dropping to 9-10V with only 150mA of discharge current. I recalled that I had been going to try something that I had seen in a YouTube video quite a while back. This is how it all went:

1: Carefully remove the top panel from the battery with a knife or screwdriver to reveal the rubber caps on the cells.
2: Remove the rubber caps.
3: Top up each cell with water. Yes, that's right, the video mentioned water but I would use distilled water.
4: Replace cell caps and top panel.
5: Charge.

I didn't have any distilled water left, so I used tap water after considering I really had nothing to lose. The charging process took longer than it had recently been taking. The immediate voltage drop no longer occurred and now, all looks fine again. It seems that the main cause of this SLA "sickness" is that they dry out.

I do have another battery that I labelled as usable, plus some I was given as no longer usable that I will also try to rejuvenate. Worth a try

Weather permitting, I plan to trailer to Lake Weeroona, arriving about 2.30pm. Will spend around an hour there before riding to the Bendigo Library to meet Bike Bendigo Committee members for a riding tour of the proposed Gov Hub area and other areas of interest for the purpose of identifying cycling infrastructure requirements. Timing is 4pm to 5.30pm.

Join us for a Bike Bendigo Community Bike Ride this Sunday!

A smooth ride away from traffic along the fabulous Bendigo Creek Trail - for riders of all abilities, at your own pace.

Our August ride is on Sunday the 11th - what better way experience nature in a supported environment? It's an 8 km ride (one way) from Golden Square through to Crusoe Reservoir in Kangaroo Flat.

Starting at 10 am (sharp) at the start of the creek trail near the main road underpass near 640 Hargreaves Street, the ride is mostly gentle heading up Bendigo Creek, before doing a circuit of the wonderful Crusoe Reservoir and returning to the start.

The whole ride is away from traffic apart from some road crossings.

Shorter Options - if you wish to shorten the ride you can:
- wait for our group along the trail somewhere and join us as we ride past for as long as you please; and/or
- accompany us as far as either Cooinda Park (2.7 kms one way) or the Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre (3.5 kms one way) and turn around and take yourself back.
