The article was fairly muted about the stated and unstated reasons for opposition to housing first.
Reading between the lines, I picked out a possible moral, up from bootstraps argument: blaming people's personal "failings" for their lack of housing and not wanting to spend the money on anything other than housing (pinned no doubt to small government views) for a select group of people.
Are these what you'd say are what the opposition is talking about?
Guessing also, as with other things, there may also be some special interests driving things?
