Changes at New Century Players Community Theatre

Elisabeth A. K. Goebel

New Century Players Community Theatre announces the departure of our long-time Artistic Director, Kelley Marchant.

Kelley and her husband Phil will be leaving at the end of July to take up teaching positions in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Kelley has been a pillar of New Century Players since the very beginning in 2003. She has performed both onstage and off in numerous capacities. It was Kelley who wrangled New Century through the intricacies of becoming a non-profit entity and brought her experience as a theater instructor to guide NCP with our early growing pains. In her time with this theater, she has negotiated contracts, produced shows, directed both straight shows and musical masterpieces, made community connections, and of course, acted on our stage.

You may remember Kelley in NCP productions of Angel Street, Laundry and Bourbon, The Laramie Project, Bad Seed, The Odd Couple, and Romeo and Juliet, as well as in professional productions in the Portland area.

After she accepted the role of Director of the Rex Putnam High School Theater Department, she did not abandon New Century Players, but continued to guide NCP into a wonderful partnership with Putnam High School, which continues to this day.

It is with great sadness that we say farewell to Kelley. Not only has she been an invaluable asset to New Century Players in every way, she has been a boon to the Milwaukie community.

Thank you, Kelley, for your hard work, resourcefulness, diplomacy, and creativity! You will be sorely missed.

We wish Kelley and Phil all the best in this new and thrilling adventure.

Thank you, Kelley, so very much!

Congratulations and Happy Trails, Kelley and Phil.   Your accomplishments at Putnam and with NCP are legendary but I won't forget the yeoman's work you did keeping the Oregon Thespians competitions going and making sure the Judges were up to snuff on their duties so many years running.
I dunno how you did it all, but you excelled at every turn!
Call me a grateful Thespian Judge and an admirer,
Chrisse
