Imago Seeks Actor Pods for Paid Rehearsals for “ROO!”

Imago seeks pods of two to four people for paid rehearsals for a new show. This is an opportunity for actors and non-actors to work in a safe environment and help build a new show while making money.

Imago will begin to rehearse a new family show called ROO! (for Kangaroo). We are seeking actors that are physical, who have one or two other people in their pod group. Only one member of the pod needs to be an actor, others can be non-actors.

The work is physical and we recommend people from 18 to about 40 to apply.

Roo! has ten to twelve different scenes in the show. Each scene is performed in a costume with a mask. Each scene comprises two to four characters.

In order to rehearse the scenes safely we are looking for an actor (female, male or non-binary) that has a social pod of two to three other people. We define a pod as a group of people that have agreed to quarantine from the rest of the community for Covid safety reasons.  Quarantine is defined as that you follow all state mandated Covid-19 guidelines,  for example - you wear masks when around people not in your pod, and practice safety guidelines set forth by the CDC.

Imago Theatre would assign a different pod for different scenes. No two pods would share costumes or masks, nor be in the same rehearsals.  The pod would be in a large rehearsal room with a director who is at least 15’  to 20' away.

Covid-19 policies would be in place for use of restrooms, eating area or moving throughout the rest of the building when not in rehearsal.

To apply send in a resume and headshot of the actor who will be the lead in your pod. Send in the names of other non-actors in your pod. Non-actors in your pod do not need to send in resume or headshots.  Pods that are selected for auditions will attend a live social distance audition set up for your pod alone.

All pods will be paid $13.50 per person per hour. All pod members must live in Portland, and must be 18 years or older. Must be able to work in US legally.  Rehearsals will take place at Imago Theatre, 17 SE 8th Avenue.

We are currently in production to build the costumes and masks.  Rehearsals will begin by January or February of 2021. Rehearsals will take place for the entire 2021 year.  The show is slated to open or preview either late in 2021 or 2022 when safety permits.  If your pod is only available for a certain amount of time (for example Mar/Apr) – that’s fine, go ahead and apply.

Please note that if your pod is selected it does not guarantee that any member of your pod will be cast in the show.

Email your applications and questions to:

jerry@...

To learn more about Imago browse our website at

www.imagotheatre.com

These are non-equity positions. The exact times of rehearsals will be determined by each pod. Rehearsals could last from one month to six months.

Please share far & wide: Gofundme- SJAC Hygiene Station Project

Social Justice Action Center

SUPPORT HYGIENE STATION PROJECT AT SJAC: www.gofundme.com/hygiene-station-project
In October 2020, The Social Justice Action Center (SJAC) launched a Hygiene Station to support the unhoused community during the COVID-19 pandemic. We need your help to help us reach our fundraising goal of $25,000 by 2021 to continue to expand open hours and sustain the project as winter approaches and the COVID-19 pandemic rages on.

The pandemic has greatly reduced public restroom availability, and many experiencing houselessness are left with few options of places to wash their hands, use the restroom and carry out their most basic hygiene needs. The hygiene station at SJAC helps to provide much needed community hygiene resources, including an outdoor hand washing station, open hours for bathroom access , informational flyers and personal hygiene supplies. The program compensates unhoused and formerly unhoused community members for their time maintaining the space, providing a modest supplemental income during a time of economic crisis.

Help us keep our doors open. A donation of $25 supports an hour of a community member’s time doing outreach and maintaining the space. $100 provides 15 hygiene care packages for the unhoused including hand sanitizer, facemasks, socks, deodorant and other hygiene items. A donation of $250 keeps us open another night, allowing two community members to staff the space, keep hot coffee flowing and give out essential PPE and hygiene supplies.

Community partners have come together to help with this project including Right 2 Survive, Stop the Sweeps PDX, Sisters of the Road, Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Keys, Beats, Bars, Northwest Alliance for Alternative Media and Education and Reclaim, Remain, Rebuild.

Thank you so much for your time and donations!

Hygiene Station at SJAC Provides

I agree with Mary. Take your time and get really good at what you do! Find pro mentors to guide you. The VO work will still be there when you're ready.

Casting Call for PDX Playwrights ZOOM INstant Play Fest #actors

Brad Bolchunos

Hello, Actors!

PDX Playwrights (PDXP) has been a part of Portland’s Fertile Ground Festival of New Work for more than 10 years, and we’re honored to return in 2021. One of our popular contributions has been our instant play festival—and we need actors!

Our online spin to the craziness is the ZOOM INstant Play Festival. Five short plays will be cast, written, rehearsed and performed live from start to finish within 48 hours! The virtual cousin to our popular “Crazy Dukes” event, ZOOM INstant is equally intense. The craziness launches 7 pm Friday, December 4, when five talented playwrights will obtain four required prompts suggested by the audience—an action, theme, line of dialogue and prop—and randomly assigned a small cast of actors … which may include YOU! The playwrights, Katie Bennett, Rachael Carnes, John McDonald, Karen Polinsky, and Nina Monique Kelly, will write and submit their scripts for review by Saturday afternoon, then rehearse and direct their 10-minute plays and present them for performance as a raw, live event recorded and assembled into one collective take 7 pm Sunday, December 6. Fertile Ground will present the recording of the wild results during the festival. Crazy!

Actors selected to participate will receive a stipend of $20.

What you need to be considered to be involved:

  • A computer with a webcam and microphone, or a phone that reliably operates on Zoom.
  • A reliable internet connection with at least 3mbs upload and 10mbs download. (Test at https://www.speedtest.net  )
  • Availability from 7 pm Friday, December 4 through 9 pm Sunday, December 6.

Thank you for submitting your headshot and actor resume and any comments you may have to zoomin@... with the subject line “PDXP ZOOM INstant Actor Submission” letting us know your interest. We welcome a range of ages, gender identities and backgrounds. Selection is at the discretion of the PDX Playwrights production team. Specific rehearsal timing within the weekend is at the discretion of the playwrights assigned. We regret we may not be able to reply to all who express interest, but thank you all in advance for your interest. If you are selected we will respond with confirmation and answers to any questions you might have.

Note: This is a call for submissions with headshots and resumes, not an audition. Please do not reply to this email and do not send submissions to PDXBackstage. Again, please send responses to zoomin@.... If you previously submitted a resume and headshot to our general PDXP casting call, you may submit again to this call expressing specific interest in this project.

For more about PDX Playwrights, and for periodic updates as well as forthcoming details about the plays themselves (comedies, dramas, short works and full length scripts), please visit our website - www.pdxplaywrights.org - and our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/pdxplaywrights.

All the best,

PDX Playwrights and the PDXP ZOOM INstant Team

COLLECTIVE RAGE at Zoom Theatre

https://zoomtheatre.com/index.php/shows/collective-rage.
Don't miss the show audiences are calling a "lovely goofy raunch raw and rage-tactic piece of theatah." Other audience include "O M G", "blew my mind", and "I didn’t want it to end."
COLLECTIVE RAGE: A PLAY IN 5 BETTIES by Jen Silverman! This queer and occasionally hazardous exploration is not to be missed! A "full-tilt lesbian / bi-curious / genderqueer / Shakespearean comedy for everyone”, COLLECTIVE RAGE follows five different people named Betty as they collide at the intersection of anger, sex, and the “Thea-Tah.” Award-winning playwright, Jen Silverman’s absurdist dark comedy is simultaneously hilarious, inspired and boldly unapologetic.
Zoom Theatre is live theatre for our times. This is not a reading or a webcast of a recorded performance. Zoom is live every time. Fully staged specifically for webcam, you won’t believe that our cast (from six different states) is not in the same room. You'll see and hear every moment from the best seat in the house, and you are part of the event, just like in a real theater.

Theatre Vertigo Bids Adieu to the Shoebox

kaia hillier

Dear Portland Theater Community,

This has been an unprecedented year.  This is a time when we are all soul searching - what does it mean to be an artist, a citizen, an arts community?

Theatre Vertigo has been no exception to the times we live in and we have been making tough choices like all small arts organizations.  As a consequence, we have made the strategic decision to let go of the Shoebox.

We have been so grateful to call this theater a home for the past seven years. The artists we have been able to support and give voice to as managers of the space and as artistic producers continue to inspire us every day. We would like to honor the artists who have given their time, energy, and hearts to the Shoebox.

The ensemble extends a deep thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. We are looking forward to, and are very excited about what the future holds for Theatre Vertigo and for our community.

With love and gratitude,

The Theatre Vertigo Ensemble

The Monday Night Acting Lab ENROLLING NOW

Jeffrey Puukka

Hello humans! I wanted to alert you that the next cycle of The Lab is currently enrolling, and begins next Monday 9th November running until 7th December 2020, from 7:30P-9:30P (pacific time) on ZOOM. Because The Lab currently runs on ZOOM, not only is there the safety of social distancing, there's also great liberty to be enjoyed as people are able to participate from wherever they are, so long as there's an internet signal. If you'd like to participate in the next cycle, you can register via my website: https://jeffreypuukka.com/portfolio/monday-night-acting-lab/ On ZOOM, The Lab focuses on being a community-oriented zone for experimentation and play, where there is freedom to fail, stretch, and grow with feedback and coaching from me, and support from fellow participants. While The Lab will always be a zone for monologue preparation and participants are encouraged to bring work in, in these last online ZOOM cycles, The Lab has put increasing focus toward: 1. Cold reading drills / impro challenges or exercises. 2. Scene study with partner/group work. 3. Community and conversation through weekly reading suggestions, q&a, and discussion. Frequently in this time of Covid-19, we see auditions being carried out online. We've also observed numerous theatre companies programming projects via remote/streaming media. Use this resource to stay sharp. Participate to play, give and receive support, and grow. It is very important to me to keep The Lab economically accessible. The Lab currently runs in 5 week cycles for $50, (stemming from the idea of $10 per Monday). Scholarships are available. If you would like to participate but cannot take part due to financial strain, please inquire with me and I will try to set that in motion. Stay happy and healthy. -J.P.

Creepy 3D farmhouse decorations for Halloween or whatever

Levi Ruiz

I purchased the 2018 in-store display from Spirit Halloween and used this for my Halloween decorations last year. It turned out fantastic and everyone who saw it was impressed. However, I don't see myself using it again as I change my Halloween theme every year, and I need to make room for new stuff for next year. So, if you want it, it's yours. Everything is in my storage unit at Extra Space Storage on Columbia Blvd. Respond to this ad with a good phone number to contact you at and I will set up a time to meet you.

I did not take many pictures, but I have a video of everything I set up you can view here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw0IYGnlesk

There is actually much more that comes with it, as I did not have room to set it all up. It would be great for Halloween, stage set decorations, birthday parties, or whatever. It is all cardboard and is in pretty good condition. I also cut up one of the floorboard patterns to make into a giant step pad, which you may also have. It is a fully 3D display including (but not limited to):

Porch posts
Porch rails
"Rusty tin" roofs
Porch boards

I will also throw in the creepy trees (and attached lights) you see there, if you want them.

PLEASE NOTE: This is for the cardboard graphics and supports, only! The animatronics, lights, projectors, gravestones, spiders, and anything else you see in the video, or not explicitly stated, is NOT included.
