I use PCBCAD17 for my layouts which I got off ebay.
Is there a converter to convert its gerber files to output for a milling machine? What does a milling machine cost? Nigel. |

Hi Nigel,
A Gerber file IS input for a milling machine! I convert PLT files into Gerber files. The best milling or drawing software is the software you are familiar with So for me it is Target 3001 from Friedrich from Germany. There is a free tiny version for free, you can download from http://www.ibfriedrich.com/english/index.htm It makes PLT files, AND outline files. You do not want to mill the tracks, but around the tracks. A milling machine cost a lot, but maybe you can build one by yourselves. Look for idea's and other information on the site of Martin de Roode http://www.geocities.com/majosoft/ On this site is a description for building a wooden milling machine, for a fist full of dollars. This is not accurate enough for PCB's but you can build experience with it. Main advantage is the prise, very very cheap! success!
