Target Drill file

Weeks ago I started with Target.

I succeeded with the making of a milling file for tracks and pads.

The drilling file is still a problem.

Then, I tried Eagle, and I finally managed to make a mill file

Unfortunaly every part of the track is separated from each other and
separated from the pads

A track is divided in strait parts no pads, and the tracks are very
narrow

There were no pads, and no holes

so i turned back to Target

The drill starts descending while it goes to the first hole

The tracks on its way are damaged.

Then it starts drilling, the first item get its holes

Then the drill goes to the following parts for drilling, the drill
travels over all the holes, but never attempt to drill it.

Where went I wrong?

Attachment is a picture of my problem in red the damage of the
descending drill (I used a mill). In the blue rectangle the holes (in
this case centre points)

But all the other parts have no centre point.

Target is an easier drawing than Eagle. So I like Target more than
Eagle.

I have only one small problem to solve. Who knows the solution?

Best regards, Dré Jansen

HI Dré,

You might have more then one problem. Some points you might already know.

* traces on one side of the board are milled from one file. A second file
cuts the traces for the 2nd side.

* The cutter must have quite a small point. Try a think-and-tinker bit,
about .005" and 60 degree tip. You'll have to make some settings to
accommodate YOUR cutter in the setup.

* There is a MACHINE type in the setup.

I'm wondering if you get a Z move combined with other moves? I'd study the
actions involved in cutting just ONE trace with two pads.

* For a trace, the cutter starts up, moves (rapid) to a point on the trace
(usually an end), then goes down to -.005" or whatever your depth is set at.
Then it cuts to then end of the trace, and starts around a pad. At the
other end of the pad, it cuts the other side of the trace. Then it goes
around the 2nd pad. Its now back at it's starting point for that trace,
where it moves up in Z.

* holes are drilled from another file. The cutter is moved rapid above the
board (+Z), until positioned over the hole's location. Then it moves down
in Z, and drills the hole. The cutter should be moved up above the board
before being moved to another hole.

* The trace widths and pad diameters you select in your board layout have to
be achievable! You won't be able to mill very small pads and traces!

* What backlash does your machine have? What machine are you using? Do you
happen to already be familiar with machining metal on your equipment?

Sorry if you are already familiar with the basic information in these
descriptions, but we have to start from somewhere!

I don’t know Target. Perhaps you'd like to make up a VERY simple board, and
post the files for it.
