Re: No Z axis G-Code

Hi

Java change to 1.8 did the same to me................in the end I uninstalled 1.8 and reloaded on V 1.7. Not the best thing to do I know, but making the PCB at the time was more important.
I’m still running Eagle 5.11 which is working fine for me. (OS is Win7 pro)

Bruce,
I happen to think (something unusual for this ole goat) that I have not done a board since I was forced to get a new computer and use win7 a short time ago (I refuse to use win8)!
So I pulled up an old board and tried to generate a new milling file to see if it would still work.
The good news is that part worked. I was able to generate a new milling file with appropriate Z movements.

The bad news is (HEY JJ, YOU READING THIS?) that the preview is broke! I recently had upgraded my java and now the preview gives me the following error:

Just for the record, I am using Eagle
Version 6.1.0 for Windows

and pcb-gcode Version 3.6.2.4

Also, I just notice when I was getting this version info there is a message on the setup ulp that shows:

Does your screen show this compatibility????

The etch file works ok with Z axis movements as required, it

Carl,
Yep, dang registery again. And if you don't know what your doing, I cannot recommend hunting it down. The only way I would do it is because I use image back up of the hard drive and if I mess up, can put it back the way it was before messing up. I don't trust "System restore" to do it for me if I screw up!

I use auroleveller.co.uk, but this software does not require the drilling/holes gcode file to keep it in the scanning process...

I need an autolevelling process after drilling process (with vias electropatting done before etching)

Best,

René

Hi,

yes it does great things for me thank you
i would like to see the Z Level probing (again) integrated i use the version alpha2 on my eagle5 and the only reason not upgrading to 7 is the autolevveling

Is there any idea if that might be possible ?
I would like to not use external tools to patch g code for leveling ?
thx

Re: No Z axis G-Code

I will check again but I am sure I have that box checked and a valid value next to that check box.

The etch file works ok with Z axis movements as required, it is ONLY the mill layer that is not
getting the Z axis values.

I will find out what version pcb-gcode I am using, I think I updated that a while back but haven't updated
Eagle and not sure I want to since I am still using XP op system.

Bruce,

When you run the pcb-gcode-setup ulp, have you placed a
checkmark to
generate the milling file AND given it a proper depth to
mill it??

again, just pulling at straws.

I ran in to similar issue a month back. Couldn't figure out what is wrong with no z movement, especially I'm using the z probe...

The odd thing is, I'm using existing file that used to work before and not necessary generating a new file. Even the ones I've had success with is no longer moving in z direction.

Hi,
yes it does great things for me thank you
i would like to see the Z Level probing (again) integrated i use the version alpha2 on my eagle5 and the only reason not upgrading to 7 is the autolevveling

Is there any idea if that might be possible ?
I would like to not use external tools to patch g code for leveling ?
thx

Re: pcb gcode settings dont save

Carl,
I installed it to :
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EAGLE-6.1.0"
on my win7 machine.

As I remember, I used the defaults for the install and then changed the directory structure as needed so it would work as needed. Obviously, I still use V 6.1.0, but I would doubt they would change the installer??? You may have to do an uninstall and reinstall to get it to go there.

I did have pcb gcode in "Documents" and it didn't work there, I think the path might have been put in wrong. BUT I think your are correct. Untill I get it changed I have found a work around. Pcb gcode put the settings folder in the ulp folder. I made the changes in the .h files and they stuck. Tomorrow I will fun another gcode made from the new .h settings and run them on the cnc. Thanks guys, Carl

I would try moving pcb-gcode to a folder somewhere inside your \Users\Your Name\My Documents folder.
This sounds like a case of Windows trying to protect you from malware. It monitors files outside of Users folders (don't recall all details exactly), and when it sees a change, it restores a backup copy it made.

See the note on pg. 7 in the manual.

John

Untill I find a fix I'll use the Winblows 7 laptop and move the board files over to the vista machine to make the gcode. I just tried that and was running a dry test on my cnc with good results. Carl

I have looked at the file properties and they are checked "Read Only". I remove the check mark and click on allow. No change. I go back to the properties and it is checked read only. I can't make change there. I am administrator. And, yes I have the options set correctly also. Looks like the hole field will have to be cut! Carl

Thanks to very generous donations in 2011, web hosting for pcbgcode.org ($120/yr) was paid through 2013. Unfortunately, donations since then don't cover the hosting costs this year. If you could make a small donation, it would help greatly. As a grad student, I have very little to spare now, and have been hit with large expenses this year.

Pcb-gcode has been free since its beginning in 2003, and will continue to be free. There is no obligation to donate.

If you find pcb-gcode useful and can help, please click here, then click the donate button.

Thanks so much,
