Wheee !! Power Out County Wide Tomorrow
Just in case you want to call or do stuff at home. Lane County has decided to cut power for the upcoming winds and heat wave. My note says from 5 pm friday through sometime Sunday. Depends on winds, possible weather emergencies, so variable but something to watch out for.

Utilities may cut power to fire-prone areas _if conditions warrant_. Those of us living in cities, and most other Coots, won't have our power cut. The free wi-fi here in Port Townsend is overloaded now that the music at the beer tent at the Festival is over so I can't recheck the article I read a while ago, but I'm pretty sure it said that the only for sure EWEB power shutoff will be up the McKenzie to Vida, and maybe up Camp Creek, or at least some of Camp Creek Road. Some of the smaller utilities may have outages planned, and they may feel the need at any time for the next few days.

Let's hope the predicted east winds aren't as fierce as they could be! Oakridge and Westfir have been issued a "be ready to evacuate" notice. The fire that's been heading east past Waldo Lake is expected to turn west :o( On September 8, 2022 8:50:44 PM PDT, Electri-Cal wrote:

Forester nephew says all logging and falling is shut down. No campfires allowed anywhere. Camp hosts and patrols to enforce. It’s become rather a big deal. Power shut off will be in the canyons. New normal with the precedent of power companies having liability. A new reality for those living in wild land interface.

This reminds me of growing up in Coos County, when much of the back country was closed at times due to fire hazard. I wish that California would do something similar. I'm tired of being their ash tray.

I went outside for lunch today and there is a strong dry east wind blowing with just a hint of smoke. Per the NWCC fire map, https://gacc.nifc.gov/nwcc/information/firemap.aspx, there are no files within 100 miles so the smoke may be from the fires near Mount Hood.

I sure hope nothing catches fire out your way, Cal! Worth the annoyance of no power for a while if it reduces the risk. It's unlikely that us city dwellers will suffer that inconvenience. Mary told me it was 80 out west of the airport in Florence around 8 this evening! Darn east wind <sigh> Low 70s for highs and lows in the low to mid 50s here in Port Townsend. Some smoke made for a red sunset and twilight. On September 9, 2022 8:12:59 AM PDT, Electri-Cal wrote:

Hooray, power just back on late yesterday afternoon. Not only no power, but I refrained from using the genset, just in case. I hooked the rear batteries from Surprise, with a converter, to make 110v. for my cpap machine. Charged electronics from the boat ciggie lighter plugs, but no internet. Oh well, we are used to it by now, one more day and I would have used the genset, run the cables, etc. ( Real Hardship ) my recliner didn't !! -- Last time it was reclined with me aboard, no warning there.
