Wondering if that algae bloom might impair the coot lunch. I plan on being there early again for more water testing. I'd like to see how the new water pump works after testing yesterday. I did a water test following a couple websites, and the new innards performed better than expected. Looks like it is time to get back to gas, with the ev pack still hooked to the trolling motor till I get the twins back. Pretty slick finding a u-tube video showing a way to water test the pump before re-installing the lower unit.
Color depth finder and plot charter thingie now gets the front viewing color video installed through the hull. Plans are for a bow install, so I can read the bottom, before I run into stuff. I hope this works, as it will be a through hull deal, I've had this gadget for about a year now, about time to give it a try, the bench test looked good, but in more than pond water, and boat movement ?? More puttering for fun and adventure ______ Cal |

Friday morning the bloom was on at Richardson. On Saturday night we went for a sail and the bloom had mostly disappeared - I'll be on the lake tonight and will report on the current conditions. Yesterday there wasn't one in the south end of the lake. We launched at Perkins Peninsula Park and tootled around. On Mon, Jul 11, 2022, 9:58 AM Dean Grabski <taperdean@...> wrote:

I hope you had a good time, Jarom. Did you tootle over to the Jungle? What kind of boat do you have for "tootling".

The usual brisk afternoon north winds may stir the water at the south end of the lake up enough to discourage blue-green algae... On 7/11/2022 10:08 AM, Jarom wrote:

We're not going swimming (we hope <g>) or water skiing, so any algae blooms won't affect the Coot lunch. I hope to attend. Had to bow out of the Salish 100. :o( I'll sit far away, downwind. ;o)

It's easy to get turned around (upside down? <g>) figuring out which way to install the water pump impeller. Youtube can help get it right, or you can look at the top of the motor to see which way the rope starter turns it. I hope the Suzie's fixed up now, Cal. On 7/11/2022 5:25 AM, Electri-Cal wrote:

I've got a homebuilt GV-11 which is becoming quite small since my kids have grown. We were planeing but it got a little rough with the north wind, so we slowed to 5 mph. Once we turned around (by the big, dead twin trees on the east side is the best I can describe it) we turned back south. We came within 300 yards of the swim area and anchored up for a swim. Quite nice, although a difficult reentry. We swam at the swimming area afterwards at Perkins for an hour. No problems, even on my daughter who had extremely sensitive skin. Fun times all around. Didn't come across any this evening - plenty of wind though! On Mon, Jul 11, 2022 at 10:52 PM Jarom <jarom.m@...> wrote:

Next time you should tootle through The Jungle. There's a wide spot in the channel when you come out of the trees that's a nice place to stop and swim, or just hang out. You get the afternoon breeze, but no waves, and the water is warm.

If you turn around and retrace your path back to the Perkins Peninsula ramp you can avoid the waves from the afternoon north winds. If you want to exit The Jungle at the north end don't be tempted by what look like clear paths to the east until you get close to the artificial Tern Island. There may be enough depth through the apparent openings further south, but there can be weeds lurking to snarl your propeller. There's a safe track shown on the topo map of the lake here: http://www.coots.org/MapImages/ValleyLakes/FernRidgeMap.png A version importable to OpenCPN, or other nav programs that can use raster charts: http://www.coots.org/KAPs/ValleyLakes/FernRidgelake31.kap A Jungle cruise in May: https://flic.kr/p/2npbKt3 (et seq.) That little Mertens garvey looks like it would get crowded with a bunch of big kids in it. <g> https://www.boatbuildercentral.com/product/garvey-11-boat-plans-gv11/ On 7/11/2022 10:51 PM, Jarom wrote:
