The floating library in Toledo is still in the works. maybe this winter it'll get off the ground, so to speak. That'll be the home for the Coot Library books. The Retired Old Geezers have a good, dry place where they've already got a bunch of books waiting. I'll forward Larry's offer to them. I can handle getting Larry's books to Toledo, if he can't. I don't have room for any more books here! <g>

Tohatsu/Mercury 9.9. I tried a different online parts dealer than I'd used before. Won't use them again... But they are genuine Mercury parts, so maybe they're stuck on a ship from Japan waiting to unload... <sigh> I think I spotted that trailer jack I ordered long before the Salish 100 sitting on this ship waiting to get into Tacoma to unload: <g>

John, Is that a 9.9 Honda that needs parts? Well that's a bummer.

The other day I bought a small brass port light off of Craigslist. While I was scanning the shop there I noticed this object...can anyone identify it...if you identify it let me know. It brass and stands about 4' high.

Didn’t they start a library at the boat houses in Toledo? 

That's a lovely collection. I really hope we can figure out a way to get them into the Coot Library, or parceled out to individuals if John doesn't want them for the library.

 

When I am a bit more comfortable with public contact, and we start having in-person messabouts as we used to, I've got some books from Pat Patteson and some from DennisMac that need to find homes also. 

 

I hope that day comes soon! I miss our events. I miss the Coots. Yes... even the misguided sort that live on the Wrong Side Of The Mountains... <G>

Greetings, it's been years since I've been to any of the Coots' activities but thought of you all when this came up.   
Back in the day when we had a larger boat I collected a bunch of books - I love books.  Now clearing out the bookcases and decided it was time for some of them to go.  I'm keeping a few to use just in case our SW Oregon lakes ever return but these do need to go.   Library isn't taking donations these days and I'm afraid there just aren't many sailors down this way.  Hate to see them go in the trash.
I get up to the Willamette Valley several times a year and could drop them off if someone (John?) wanted to keep or distribute them.  Just let me know if there's any interest and I'll get them there.  I'd like to think that some day the creeks will rise, the smoke will clear, the days of masks will pass and we'll join you folks on your northern waters again.

Some years ago something I'd always dreaded might happen while I was getting to my spot for the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival happened -- I bumped into one of the big, expensive yachts. A Trumpy. I went over and apologized, and meekly accepted a dressing sown from the Trumpy's owner. He was a bit full of himself. I had to bite my tongue when he got to the part where he said that if the special paint he'd had put on the topsides got scratched or nicked, it couldn't be touched up, he'd have to have the whole side of the (Big) boat painted! I desperately wanted to say, "that sure is lousy paint! If I get a scratch in the latex house paint I use on my boat I just wash the spot and slap some more on, and after a while nobody even notices the touch-up." ;o)

There's an article about this little trainer in the latest Water Craft magazine. Looks like it'd be more fun to sail than an Optimist, and a whole lot more fun to look at. :o) And it's designed to be built by amateurs! I know, so were Optimists, but that was long, long ago, and now it's almost impossible for an amateur to build a class-legal Opti. :o( I do love the look of traditional lateen sails. :o)

Dan, Jamie and Walkabout have been expecting to meet up with the Coot
cortege at Sand island on or about a week hence. We have managed to defer
some difficult-to-resked appointments, and made some extensive
repairs/exploratory surgical procedures to our running gear, as well. But.
I'm beginning to wonder about the prospects of a quorum from the locals.
We missed the Toledo fete as a result of a just-prior catastrophic failure
and fire. So, it goes.

I would greatly appreciate a command climate assessment vis a vis the
committed vs the mebbe's. If Wednesday is a "steaming day", underway on
the river; I need to anticipate a departure date from Almostcanada this
coming monday. It's pushing 1K miles round trip, towing a 4,500 pound
trailer and boat. I have yet to see from the planning chatter if things
like reservations and long term parking arrangements are needed. Stuff
like that.

I dont know John, but I can look for the boat and stick a post-it note on it the next time I am at Fred's.  Good to know about the 15th - I will continue to track the dates as the plan develops.  Personally, I have to be in Portland the evening of the 20th and the 21st but am otherwise fairly open.  With our current schedule I would be going with the group to Walker but then heading back.  I like the locations that have been proposed.  My boat is a Sage 17 - basically a slightly update Montgomery 17 sailboat.  I was on the Salish this year with her.
