Home!

Dr. Petra made it back to Corn valley safely, and Lazy Jack is snug in my driveway here in Eugene. I haven't heard from Dan since he snuck out of Longbranch while I was taking a nap yesterday. He had a dinner date in Henderson Inlet, and I don't know if he and Jamie and Walkabout are on their way back to Almostcanada yet...

Here's the last shot, of many, I took last night of Mt. Rainier from the dock in Longbranch.

An example of "design by committee"?

Re: Portland fore boat sinks on maiden voyage

Darn this tablet! I must have let the spell checker spoil my jest about Dirt's mistyped subject. <sigh> Of course I meant, "that's a 'far boat' Case, not a 'fore boat'". If you're gonna misspell at least do it so it makes sense... "Ah fell in to a burning Kindle Far..."

Longbranch really is a nice spot. It's in a beautiful little bay, with a view of Mt. Ranieri that can't be beat. The marina is run by a non-profit with all volunteer labor, and is very homey and friendly. A gem. :o)

He likes to speed along so he can get to our destinations early and take a nap. <g>

Longbranch is a really nice spot. :o) Marred only by no running water at the marina, only porta potties, and the guest slips being exposed to wakes from boats passing by outside the bay. I'd stay here again.

Tomorrow we've got another short hop to Oly, where we hope to pull out early enough to drive home to Oregon the same day. Walkabout, Dan and Jamie the Seadog have a longer trek back to Almostcanada.

Salish 100

It was a great Salish 100! :o) Lots of nice people and boats, music, singing, boat BSing, and a big hamburger and hot dog feed the last night, in Port Ludlow. :o)

Dr. Petra, Walkabout and Lazy Jack started back to Olympia this morning, leaving Port Ludlow at 5:00 AM <gasp> to have favorable current at Foulweather Bluff and Point No Point. Had the worst weather since we left Olympia, a cold south wind against the flood tide after we rounded Point No Point. Nothing scary, but it was a good day to be in a boat with an inside helmet, like Dr. Petra or Walkabout. <g> We got into Brownsville before 11:00, and now it's time for a nap... Gig Harbor is our stop Tomorrow, then Longbranch the next night before a short hop to Oly. Pictures and stories after we get back home.

I hope somebody has been doing the Thursday Coot lunches while we've been gone.

New controls for my Minn Kota

Electri-Cal

just finished and bench tested my new power panel, works good, plus it can be added to any brand electric trolling motor or removed easy.  Now I can start or stop my Minn Kota from the rowing seat, no hands needed.  Good for trolling or sudden obstructions.  I have power and  battery controls so I can get back home safer,  I can also charge my phone, add a sound system, or nav. lights as desired.  That is a bunch of stuff I have wanted for a long time.   I have some more in the idea bin, but this is a good start.

Have a Great Day,  Cal

Re: Possibly a heads Up for the 4th. of July this year

The state mask mandate, and other Covid restrictions, go away today:

https://www.opb.org/article/2021/06/30/oregon-ends-mask-social-distancing-mandate/

But that doesn't mean we're out of the woods yet...

"The risk of a vaccinated person contracting COVID-19 also goes up the more they are exposed: not significantly, but catching the disease is an odds game. Vaccinated people, who only make up 2% of recent COVID-19 deaths, have much better odds.

"That’s why, unlike the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization continues to recommend masks in all indoor spaces. Yes, even vaccinated people."

Meanwhile, I'll see you at Fern Ridge Thurs., probably pull back to the dock around noon,  Having a dandy lunch, and an early cruise sounds just about right.
