Re: [MessaboutW] Anybody Need another Boat Project?
Ha Ha, That is not this dory. This came from Puget Sound and was electric powered ( golf cart motor) and was used to go from Bellingham to the San Juans.

Hmmm…a dory in Montana---big state Montana. Still, “never did receive a title” and “dory” in Montana reminds me of Sam McKinney’s 1st attempt to go down the Missouri in the 80’s---it was a dory and it got stuck. It was insured and someone pulled it out of the mud and ended up with it…hmm…

Anybody Need another Boat Project?
Jim Young, waiting for ice for his iceboat in western Montana, has 24' St. Pierre dory that's surplus to his needs:
"...bought [it] but never did receive a title. It has sat for years under a tarp and needs TLC. Currently it is powered by a 8hp aircooled Honda motor through a lawn mower transmission to the shaft and bronze prop. It was elec drive when I got it but all the batterys were bad so I reconfigured it. That boat is for sale cheap if a coot wants it." Sitting in Somers, on the shore of Flathead Lake. -- John (jkohnen@...) A lawn is nature under totalitarian rule. (Michael Pollan)

“Significant” is an interesting word. It suggests “some” and some is likely too many. I’m with the States, not just Oregon, in feeling “some” is too many. Lake Havasu in AZ has already been invaded by Quagga Mussels. While canoes and kayaks may, or may not, be significant seems to me immaterial. Any is too many. I expect the idiots back using Tui Chub illegally for fishing in Diamond Lake, for example, think a few won’t make any difference. Tut Chub are already making a comeback there after millions spent trying to eradicate them.

I really wasn't aware of small canoes, kayaks and other unregistered craft being significant spreaders of invasive species.

Re: [MessaboutW] Re: Coots Boat Gallery
Email corrections or additions to the Boat Gallery to me, or the group. I can save a photo of your boat(s) on coots.org, but there are lots of places you can publicly stash a bunch of photos on the Interweb, so doing that and sending me a link is the best option.

Jim - Sorry that you and Lucy can't make it. Next time.
Dan - Your offer sounds great! But, I'm not sure how big my group is. Son Mike might make it with a possibility of daughter Patti. I am awaiting replies now and will get you an email reply as soon as I know, probably today, sometime. Thanks. Bob L.

Looks like I won't be able to make it this year. I just got a reply from my doctor re whether rowing/paddling was an okay activity during recovery from last month's surgery . He said "No, not for a couple more weeks." Guess I'll miss the fun in the rain.

Lemme just say on the invasive species tag business…….if you haven’t been to a state, and the number of said states is increasing at far too rapid a pace, where zebra mussels or asian carp or other kinds of nasty imports from foreign countries and climate, you ain’t seen nuthin’. If it’s at all possible we can keep careless or ignorant folks from importing them into Oregon and the PacNW it’s a good thing. And it costs money especially in Oregon where boat things and fishing things are funded by user fees. It’s a nuisance to buy a tag/license, it’s still a bit confusing but the consequences of not protecting Oregon’s waters is huge. I’m just an old retired guy with no axe to grind, I’m just sayin’……. Here's a very "Coot-ish" group of English Duck Punt sailors having way too much fun at Christmas. No "Invasive Species Tax Receipts" required over there....yet. From Duckworks Magazine:

With "good" weather, Nancy and I will be there. I need to run and get my Evasive Species Permit for my canoe, this week. This is one of our favorite jaunts. It is just beautiful, up the creek. Plus, all the birds and waterfowl make it very special. I'm not sure about Coots, however ... Ha! Dave Haverstock

Yes - I will. But I'm a ways away from getting back to the completion of the boat... and from being able to afford the motor. Though I did buy a lottery ticket. So, who knows, maybe I'll be able to afford TWIN outboards <G>
