I'm trying to update my 12000 for the RE 18 hoop.  I've downloaded the update, followed the directions to format the USB stick, and unzipped the files.   plugged in the USB stick to my machine and turned it on, holding in the 2 buttons, and all I get is a black screen.  Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?  It will open and read the same kind of flash drive.

You mention unzipping the files, but did you also run the UpdateTool that was in the unzipped files? It's critical to preparing the USB drive. See this:

Yes, though I don't know if I'm doing it correctly.  I started over, and when I clicked to eject the drive I got a popup message.  At the top it says Update Tool, the parameter is incorrect.

OK, I got it!  Seems when I clicked on the tool it was opening up in MS Edge and I was doing everything else in Google.  I don't understand why that happens sometimes, but I copied the link from Edge and pasted it into Google, and presto-change-o, it worked!
