If You Are Considering Purchasing a Janome CM17
Pam Davison
I am writing this because I want you to be informed if you choose to purchase a CM17.
Just so you know these are the Janome machines that I have purchased and used or am still using.
I eagerly purchased my CM17 on May 18, 2022 and these are the issues that I have experienced so far that are still outstanding. Most of the time the issues below happen randomly which is infuriating. I plan on taking my machine into my dealer hopefully this weekend.

Thank you Pam for letting me know. I never buy a new machine when it first comes out. I usually wait at least a year for them to get the bug out of them. This one though is out of my price range and I didn't feel it had enough upgrades to merit that kind of price.; My 15,000 will stay my baby. Thanks again, Cindy On Tue, Oct 11, 2022 at 6:12 PM Pam Davison <pamyjo2001@...> wrote: |

As a techie…retired or not…I stay off ‘the bleeding edge’ and do not ‘chase technology’ except professionally and for test systems only!!! I was very sad to read the list of issues. It’s not a machine that can replace my 15000 because I need the free arm, but I’m sure many people don’t. But the worst part is that first run issues can mar the company’s reputation and send customers elsewhere and/or at least cost them sales. Depending on the issues, that can be dreadful for a company and I think Janome has, generally speaking, a lot of very solid products so I hope those issues are limited to one or a very few machines that just didn’t come off the assembly line ‘fully cooked’ and ready to serve. At least they are replacing the machine, so I hope the replacement is perfect!!! Typos courtesy of autocorrect.

Janome is a great company that stands behind their machines.

I am typically not an early adopter either (though I did with my 500e to replace my 350e). However I had the experience of an erratic machine with my v2 15000. Fortunately the problems showed up about 2 months into ownership. Dealer worked with Janome to trouble shoot it for about 3 weeks, came to the conclusion that it was a lemon, and replaced it with a new machine.

Even good brands can have occasional lemons. Pam, I am sorry your CM17 apparently was one of these. But at least you have a new machine coming. Pixey On Oct 12, 2022, at 8:21 AM, DeeDee Bedard <ddbedard@...> wrote:

I have the CM17, and I have NONE of the issues you experienced. It's my fourth Janome, and the best one so far.

I also am having no problems. I also love my 15000 and use it for class, so I didn't NEED this machine! Traded in a 12000.
I especially like the hoop attachment on the side. I find I can do small t-shirts as well as my own much more accessible than with the top hoop attachment as on the old machines. And am enjoying the ability to have a bigger hoop. (I had gotten away from embroidery when I bought a Cricut and this machine is getting me back to my first love!) |

My M17 and my MC15000 are both wonderful and I use both all the time without troubles.

You can bet I have learned my lesson this time. Going forward I will wait a year if I choose to buy a newly redesigned machine. I will also no longer depend on a manufacture’s previous reputation and spend time at the dealer doing thorough testing.
It’s funny, I had the 15000 and never really used all the features. It was only after I got the CM17 and started playing with it that I realized – I could have saved myself a ton of money and aggravation.
It was because I did not utilize my 15000 that I made it a point to delve into my CM17 and start to understand it’s capabilities.

Very well stated.
I will no longer be the first in line to purchase. I will wait, do thorough testing at the dealer, and read “real” buyer reviews before I purchase.
