Old MC 10001
Sharonsew
I have an MC10001 and am trying to get it up and running. I realize this machine is very old but I have used it from time to time for sewing as a backup. Well, when I turn it on, I’m getting a message to Raise the Presser Foot and needle bar, then turn power on again. I have done this several times and am still getting the message. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thank you. Sharon _._,_._,_ |

The message is a catch-all that is telling you that one of the self-tests, performed when the machine was turned on, has failed. They don't tell you which test or why it failed. By watching closely, you may be able to tell something. When the machine is turned on you should hear a buzzing at the top next to the tension slot. That's the tension motor, turning in both directions. The needle bar should shudder slightly. The feed dogs should wiggle forward and backward. If the machine has not been used in a long time, there may be dried grease that is sticking parts, or bushings may be dry from lack of oil. Unfortunately there is almost nothing you can do without a full service, so that's the best option.

I get this message from my (not as old) MC 12000. What works for me (most of the time) is--at end of sewing, before powering off the machine, to make sure I manually rotate the handwheel about 3 times, leaving it at highest needle position, and lift pressure foot too. Not sure why this usually works, but it's worth a try.

Thank you. Jim and c-zyila. I did finally manage to clear the message and get it up and running. I do need to take it in for a full service. Sharon

I get that message on both my older 11000 and not so old 15000. On Sun, Jan 15, 2023 at 6:19 AM Sharonsew <sharonsew@...> wrote:

With regard to my MC 10001, I am taking it in for a tune and spa day. I was able to clear the message and it is sewing fine. I was wondering if any of you recall if there was a straight-stitch needle plate that one could purchase for it. I had thought I had one, but cannot remember if there was one with that machine. I have one for my 15000 and my 6500. If any of you recall or have one for sell, I would be interested in purchasing it. Thank you. You can email me privately at sharonsew@... Thank you. Sharon_,_

My MC10001 manual (still in use and runs great!) does not mention anything about having a single-hole needle plate, even as optional accessories. You could check with your local dealer but I know it didn't come with one. You have to use the zigzag plate for embroidery or any of the decorative stitches. Some of the newer machines started having a single-hole plate. If you want to change your zigzag plate to a single hole one- use painter's tape to cover part of the zigzag opening and then position your needle over the open area. But, again- if you forget and change to a wide stitch or a L/R/Center needle stitch and the tape is covering that area, you'll have to take the tape off and potentially clean off your needle with an alcohol swab.
