Oiling Janome 550e
Lorna S Flanagan
Check your speed on the sliding button. I was having so much trouble with my speed, then I through my hands in the air and walked away. Came back in a bit, looked over everything, and realized I had apparently bumped the slide button. It was all the way slow (400 spm). Slid it over and away I went. Now I use that to change the speed for a short time like when using metallic thread.

Check the settings to see if Quiet Mode is turned on. When that is activated the speed cannot be changed.

I was using a metalic thread so I slowed it down to the slowest it would go. Now I cant speed it up because its greyed out. Im not sure why its happened now it will only sew on the slowest speed. regards zelda On 20 Dec 2022, at 20:56, favymtz <favymtz@...> wrote:

Zelda, In the Setting mode make sure you check what speed you have it set on. Favymtz On Tue, Dec 20, 2022 at 12:00 PM Zelda Little <kzelda42@...> wrote: hi Mary --

I have only oiled mine deeply like that once but mine seemed to come off easily so I wonder if its just stuck. I have a problem with mine whereby I changed the speed but now its greyed out and I cant change it. So if anyone knows how i can change it please let me know. regards zelda On 19 Dec 2022, at 16:21, Mary Flude <maryflude@...> wrote: |

Hello everyone, I recently moved to a new house and had a lot of personal changes going that limited my sewing time. My 2 y/o Janome 550 has not been turned on for 1.5 years and I think it should be oiled prior to my first use after sitting untouched. I may look into a professional oiling before starting her up again. I am lucky to have a good repair shop close to my home. Getting back to my sewing hobby is the best gift for me. I have the 500e not 550e, but yes, the oiling is a negative to this machine. As I recall the first time I oiled it, the arm cover was pretty tight from the factory assembly and I had to sort of wiggle it loose. You mention it holding fast at a wider edge, you might try rotating it out and up from the opposite edge that is not holding tight.

I keep hoping Janome will come out with a new embroidery-only machine soon that is higher end materials and features (without the oiling and with a height adjustable foot). I just keep having to remind myself, there is no single perfect machine. Pixey On Dec 19, 2022, at 10:21 AM, Mary Flude <maryflude@...> wrote: |

It has been a minute since I've oiled my machine and I don't remember if that was an issue. At work now and will try this evening if no one else responds before then.
I will say that I am not easily intimidated but when I read the instructions for oiling this machine i thought it was daunting.

I am on the last leg and have taken the two screws out of the carriage arm but I can’t remove it. It is holding fast at the wider edge and I can’t lift it off. I have watched a video and it looks like it should just lift up easily. Has anybody run into the same problem. I am at a loss to know what to do short of taking it to the dealer Many thanks in advance, Mary |
