Sewist 525S

I am currently in Alabama helping my mother-in-law downsize for a transition into an assisted living apartment. Some years ago (around 2008) I bought her a Janome Sewist 525S when her cabinet Singer quit working. We are now giving the machine to her step-granddaughter. Unfortunately because of a series of moves with her second husband, she has previously packed away the machine accessories but cannot remember where she put the box. Sadly there is some dementia involved.
My question is if the machine recipient wants to replace the missing feet (over stitch foot, button foot, etc.), can she get get the 7mm version or was this machine something different. Thanks, Pixey |

Pixey, the 525S has a maximum stitch width of 5mm, not 7mm. So the feet that are currently being sold for 5mm machines will fit the machine. Hi Pixey,
I had a little Jim Platinum 750 and it was a 5mm machine, but I used the 7mm feet on it with no problem. If the Sewist 525S is a front loading machine it most likely uses the 5mm feet and there are feet available for the machine, you’d just have to check that with your dealer to be certain. It is best to use the correct feet so that the feed dogs line up to get accurate stitching. She’d definitely want a 1/4” foot, a G Foot for blind homing and perhaps the C or M foot for overcasting if the machine can do that. There are many groups on Facebook and if you join one, you’d perhaps get help from a Janome Educator - they should at least know what machine is comparable to the 525S as there are still many machines that are front loading for sexists that are wanting to get started and not spend a lot of money. The group I’d start with on Facebook would be “The Janome Sewing Classroom” page. It may also go un “Janome Sewing Machine” but not the one that has the little sewing machine as its icon. It has the Red JANOME Sewing Classroom on the bottom of the picture and 3 photos above the centre picture looks like it is the Continental M7 machine. Cheryl - Saskatoon |

This machine has a max stitch width of 5mm. The feet can all be replaced and you can determine which feet came with the machine by looking in the manual. The manual is free online. Martha Pullen Licensed Educator |

Thanks all. I wondered if it might be 5mm because I thought the slot on the foot looked a bit narrow. Fortunately we did find the actual manual. This was a 2nd(senior) marriage of high school sweethearts now octogenarians, and several back and forth moves between their two houses over the past 10 years. My m-i-l hasn’t used it much of late and when she did was just straight stitching. We ‘think’ it got boxed up in one of 3 storage units with their previous move about 3 years ago.
