CM17 Color Printed Manuals for Free
Pam Davison
I paid a pretty penny to have the CM17 manuals printed in color and don’t want to throw them away. If you are a CM17 owner and you would like them for free email me (pamyjo2001 @hotmail.com). If they have to be shipped, YOU pay for the shipping.

What??!! I see that someone paid to get the manual for her CM17 printed in color. Doesn't this machine have an MSRP with 5 digits?? I am shaking my head that such an expensive machine only comes with I assume a rather chintzy black and white owner's manual. Tsk tsk, Janome.....not a cool move on people spending enormous amounts on your machines. Such a small thing, but very impactful (at least I think...) for such an investment. Like buying a new car, but you have to get your own keys made in order to drive it off the lot. I'm just sayin'......

Put me off when I realised there no ext table either, it’s assumed the embroidery unit is sufficient, don’t know if you can remove the arm leaving the bed in place or the arm is left in place, but the embroidery bed has dual purpose! You pay extra for that
too. Not sure about the manual, but many machines come with the manual on a USB for you to print off or you download from the net!

Manual is online and you can move the embroidery arm. Also other brands seem to be doing the same thing. That's not saying I agree with it I'm just noting that other brands seem to be doing the same thing now.

That’s what I meant by machines, even smaller machines, you download or it’s on a stick for you to go through. Saves printing and paper, I suppose it reduces cost but given how expensive they are it’s not a big saving. I think I must be spoiled by having
the ext table with both the 12 and 15000, but it seemed a bit of an excuse to say the embroidery unit is the table because it doesn’t have a free arm. I like a table then when I’m sewing I can tuck bits and pieces underneath. I’ve got an under counter drawer
that I have stuck to my 15000, it’s stuck on with removable velcro so isn’t permanent, but it’s big enough to take pencil, pen, brush, small scissors, and a couple of bobbins. Easily within reach, and I have another next to me under a unit shelf again handy
bits and pieces, neither get in the way, and they don’t get shifted in all the mess of my sewing room.

Good Morning
I really liked Kathy's analogy of needing to buy car keys after buying the car. This is Janome's TOL machine and entering the market against other brands' TOL. Janome needs to stand out from the crowd. While manuals may be on USB or be downloaded that misses the point. That is cost cutting and does not reflect well on Janome's price level for its machine. Too often, we the customer, accepts such an issue without protest.
Given the comments and, already a couple of users with major issues with their purchase, it is time Janome pnders carefully its direction and how its customers relate to that.
I for one will not be purchasing this TOL especially given its opposition is worth considering.

I haven' t had a chance to test-drive the M17 (CM17?) but even if I did, the price point is just....gasp...I do not know how they came up with such a high price? It used to be the TOL machines hovered around 10k. But to more than double that, yikes. And surely at even the 10k price they included a printed color manual, didn't they? When my 12000 finally dies I hope there are some nice, more moderately priced machines available. I don't mind printing my own manual if the total price of machine is within grasp of middle-class households.

While I totally agree to your points about the ridiculously increased MSRP, I don't share your view on the manual:
Actually I prefer PDFs and search for them for every technical purchase (which came with paper manuals) for a couple of reasons: They cannot get lost in my household, take no space, are always handy (when kept on my cloud storage), and are even searchable. And saving our planet some resources comes as an extra bonus!
I don't need any printed manuals ... even my car came without one :)

I started keeping copies of user manuals for all my sewing machines on my iPad in the iBooks app, so I would have access when I was at workshops in the event I needed to use a feature on that specific machine that I was less familiar with. I downloaded them from the Janome website (even my oldest ones) and then exported them into iBooks, renamed them to something readable, and then created a specific collection for my sewing manuals to make it easier to jump to them.

I do find some manuals easier to use in this format than others. It often depends on the quality of the Table of Contents or indexing. The born digital ones, do seem to be written better for this style of use. As with any tool, ease in use comes with familiarity. The other day, I went to oil my 500e and found myself reaching for my iPad version first. I also do this for my embroidery project PDF instruction files. Though I still print out color charts so I can mark them up with my color changes.

You can import PDFs into the Books app on your Mac, and they will be synched to your iPad's Books app. But I found it more convenient to just copy manuals into a dedicated folder I created in iCloud Drive and use Apple's "Files" app on my iPhone / iPad for viewing ... you can open PDFs directly from there.

I agree with Mattes. I did however, get my manuals printed in BLACK AND WHITE as I knew colour would be more than twice the cost. Most of us that can afford these top of the line machines are older. Young folks ask for PDF’s - they don’t want printed and I expect that most of the research and development people are much younger than many of us, so they see the “the output” in a very different manner than many of us.
As for the extension table - I have my M7 in a drop in table so the extension table is tucked away in a cupboard - ready for use at any time that I might require it for either my M7 or my CM17. I also have the cloth setter for my S9 - tucked in a cupboard too as they take up space in my sewing room and could get damaged if left in the open. Some things are a challenge but are worth it. Having said all this, IF I didn’t have the M7 I certainly don’t think I would be purchasing the extension table as I don’t find the embroidery unit a hindrance on the machine. I also think that the embroidery unit is heavy duty enough to handle anyone quilting a large quilt with it on the machine. I don’t think many are careless when they are sewing.
