So sorry you can’t get your own 15000 back but that’s really super they are fixing the issue. Also very sorry about the disappointment in the new model. Hopefully it’s smooth sailing from here!

Pam,  I think that machine needs to go back to Janome.  For some reason your dealer needs to stand up for you.  It’s really weird that you or anyone for that matter would be so unlucky to get 2 of the same model machine that have the same issue.  I can’t imagine what you must be feeling beside the anger, it would set of all emotions and feelings in distress I’m sure.

Added note to all:  My left eye cataract surgery went well yesterday and today I CAN SEE - it’s amazing.  I will have the right eye cataract removed in 3 weeks and then I should be almost as good as new - I can’t subtract from my 77 years, but I’m sure I will feel much better with clearer and better vision again.

So pleased your dealer is standing by you, many don't!  Now you can take your time and relax before making any decisions.  Wishing you all the best.

It has been a nonstop nightmare and i wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.  Dropped everything off at dealer and just want a refund at this point.

I’m so sorry. That’s terrible that you have received two ’bad’ machines when you were looking forward to a new machine that was as advertised…I am just realizing you probably are talking about a CM17, which really is heart breaking. I really do hope that they get it sorted out and quickly. Even one customer so unhappy is detrimental to their business.

Glad left eye is working again.  Just dropped everything off at my dealer and told them I want a refund.  Dealer will call Janome Monday.  I traded my 15000 for the cm17 and don't believe my dealer has any left so that will be interesting working out those details.  Praying dealer/Janome makes this right and hoping i can get a 15000 again.

Ugh...

When I worked in the high tech manufacturing industry, we called that "infant mortality" in analysis...meaning a machine that either fails the final quality tests, or passes the tests but fails "out of the box" or soon thereafter when still new in use.

Definitely let the dealer you purchased that machine from know that it is "not working correctly out of the box" and the sooner the better...it could be there were machines manufactured with a bad lot of a component, too, and maybe you got one.  If that's the case, they will definitely want to know...there'll be rework they'll need to do.  I cannot imagine that a zigzag stitch was NOT part of a final QC check...we didn't manufacture sewing machines but Brother manufactured mechs from our engineering artwork for us for our products...LOL

I agree. Something is out of whack with the zigzag mechanism on your machine. Zigzag on a quilt shouldn’t look like that either. I was test stitching a new ITH tiny box bag pattern today and was unhappy with the raw edges on the inside. The first test bag I ran the box closures on the serger but it was even smaller than this one and with the batting, didn’t seam well in places. Plus I worried the knife or needles might find the metal zipper stops even though they should have been out of the way, but two needles zooming over the nylon zipper was concerning, too. But, you can see that my 15000 zigzagged through 4 layers of fabric and 2 layers of bamboo batting, and the zipper and tight satin stitching without missing a stitch.  Some of the zigzags are a little close or further apart but that’s because, even with the Acufeed wide
foot, it was so thick the ‘dogs were barking’ at me. Lol

I also agree about calling your dealer first if there is distance involved.  If some gunky yuck ‘can’ get in there and cause an intermittent issue…like gunk from sewing through adhesives…maybe you can effect change at home.

Good luck. I’d be interested in what is causing it.

Cheryl, yay on the cataract surgery!!!  Sounds like a great outcome!

So glad to hear your surgery went well.

I was sewing on a medium weight cotton (no batting) for my testing.  I have spent time waiting paitiently for a fix and I even worked with a  Janome educator testing the first machine before they finally agreed to replace it.

The new replacement machine is worse – I did not list every issue.  It has been 6 months since I made my original purchase and at this point I am disappointed, angry, and over this machine.

I am about to go into a rant now so I will stop here with now I am working with my dealer to make me whole and praying that does not became a fight.

Thanks for checking.  I am attaching pictures but quite honestly I believe there is an issue with the machine.  The blue lines in the picture indicate the problems.

  • The machine does not zig zag properly.
    • The first day I did just a regular zig zag (stitch 9) and the machine would do a couple zig zags, then some straight stitches.  It would repeat this sequence.
    • I tried a different zig zag (don’t remember the number but it WAS NOT the hem zig zag).  The machine would do about an inch or so of straight stitching, then 1 zig zag.  It would repeat this sequence.
    • The next day I tried stitch 9 and it stitched as expected, but other zig zag type stitches did not stitch properly.  I did not test all the zig zag stitches, just a few to know there is something definitely wrong.
    • Can’t do a buttonhole (stitch 1) – tried both with and without a piece of stabilizer underneath the fabric.
    • Eyelet hole (stitch 21)
    • Stitch 10 did not stich properly

Hi Pam,
After reading the problems that you are having, I had to check my machine to see if my machine would sew and beautiful zig zag and it does.  I just sewed one on a piece of flannel that was right under my nose and tried a “default” #9 Utility zig zag, sewed about an inch and widened it to about 6.0 and continued sewing another few inches.  There were absolutely NO skipped stitches and it looked good on both sides.  I’ve attached a file where I’ve sewed 2 types of fabric.  One is the flannel I mentioned already and the other is a piece of twill that came from pants that I shortened.  The long row was on the fold and it isn’t as good in places as the one on the left and this fabric was just a single layer with NO stabilizer.  The widest zig zag shows a bit of the bobbin thread coming to the top, but remember this is a test stitch out and I didn’t try any adjustments at all other that width and length.  The part that looks straight was set at 0, so there isn’t a requirement for the needle to move to the side.  I think it looks pretty good considering that I was only playing to see what results I’d get.  Can we see what your machine is doing?

I do expect to get different results if I were to sew elastic - I really don’t like swing elastic on any machine as it had bands of rubber or something that stretches and needle don’t usually like it and they don’t like the needle penetrating it either.

Anyone seen the below issue on any of their Janome machines.

Problem Stitch 9 (middle zigzag) - it sews several zigzags then several straight stiches repeatedly. There are other zigzag stitches that are problematic, but some stitch fine.

This is on the CM17.  Will be taking it to the dealer, but wanted to know if anyone had this issue and was it an easy fix.
