Bobbin Question

Sissy Costello

Hello All! Crazy new Janome convert here.

I have a box of the Fil-Tec CG15L bobbins that came with my MC10000. Are these also compatible with my new-to-me 500e?

Yes.... It escalated quickly from the 10000 to the 500e.

Thank you!

Sandra Wheeler

I don't have a 500e but I Fil Tec bobbins work fine in my 11000, 15000 and 6600.

Sandra and Others re: Janome bobbins and e500 machine:

First, I will say that I have the e500 embroidery-only Janome as well as a Skyline 7 model. I always thought that generic, and/or pre-wound bobbins were fine until I had a problem with bobbins in the e500 machine that was solved only after several trips to a dealer for service. The bobbins were back-spinning and making a LOT of noise a couple years ago. Apparently something called a "bobbin stop" was actually missing from my machine. I have no idea how or why that part came to be missing, but I was glad that the dealer finally noticed that. I decided at that point to chuck all of the generic   bobbins and use only genuine janome bobbins with the J stamped on the central shaft of the bobbin. I purchased about 50 of these genuine Janome bobbins and got a good price online at a place with the word Pocono in the company name. Sorry, I cannot recall the full name but it should be easy to Google and find the full name. Ever since I have been using the genuine Janome J bobbins in BOTH of my machines, I have not had a single bobbin-related problem with either machine. I decided to go full bore--so to speak--and  use only high-quality bobbin weight thread and wind all of my own bobbins. I will wind a couple dozen of them at a time. I cannot say that the "bobbin stop" part was the actual problem, because I have never actually seen a part called "bobbin stopper" (or "stop") because the dealer supposedly installed the part when I was not present in his shop. But I CAN say that using the genuine Janome J bobbins with the J stamped inside has made a world of difference. I should say that I am not affiliated with Janome in any way and do not receive any benefit from advocating their product.

I hope you get your bobbin issue solved.

I recall the issues you were having, Kathy, but I can assure you there absolutely IS a 'bobbin stop' part...I had to adjust the bobbin stop on my 11000 because it was not in the correct position and caused me lots of thread nests and bad embroidery...the machine tried more than once to jetison the bobbin up through the clear plastic bobbin cover!!!   Not sure what it's "official part name" is, and it's an itty bitty little thing, but it's there.  I am forever grateful to Jim for telling me about the bobbin stop being maladjusted on some of the 11000's.

I have only used Janome bobbins since about 1978 so I have no experience with other bobbins in Janome machines.  I buy the prewound Janome bobbins, so no 'other brand experience' with prewound bobbins either...again, because all of my machines since that time have been made by Janome.  I did once...in a pinch...use a 'generic brand I never heard of' prewound bobbin from some retail sewing/craft store, but ONLY as a test back when the 11000 was spazzing out on me.  I still have the rest of the package...I use them on the thread spool or for hand sewing, or in sewing kits, or I wind the thread off onto a "J" bobbin as needed.  Mostly, the package sits in a drawer...LOL

It's Pocono Sew & Vac (in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania since 1979)...I get stuff from them, too.

The specs seem to indicate this is a high quality, Class 15 bobbin, so it should be fine.  That said, if it is the really fine bobbin thread that I am thinking it is, you will probably wan to use the yellow dot bobbin case when you use these bobbins.

Cat--Thanks for your bobbin experience info and the confirmation of the existence of the part referred to as the "bobbin stopper". Jim once sent me a photo with an arrow pointing to such a stopper, but I still could not  distinguish it from any other part of the machine. But if Jim said it was there in the picture, then I assume it IS there, just not apparent to my eye.
And, yes, Pocono Sew and Vac is where I got the genuine bobbins for a very good price--as you posted. Not 3 or 4 in a blister pack for way more $.
Happy stitching----due to a move, I have not stitched a single stitch since early April. Need to get back in gear!!!

Don't feel bad, Kathy...I just finished two Christmas quilts I tried to have done by Last Christmas, that I hoped I could make in time for the Christmas before..LOL  All I had not gotten done by last Christmas was the last seam on the bindings.

I bought four Hawaiian print fabrics a few months ago, too, and hadn't had time to cut shirts out.  But my son and his family are on vacation this week, so Nana gets a vacation, too...and I only have one fabric left to cut into shirt pieces.  I have all the interfacings cut, so it's almost like I'm done.

Jim's image showed the arrow pointing directly at the bobbin stop, I think.  I saw that image, but it's been a while.  Here's another image:

https://f01.justanswer.com/Solvanus/75a1cf47-9f56-4237-89bd-079509443ca2_Bobbin_Stopper_misaligned.jpg

So glad your dealer finally figured it out.  Really do wonder how it came up missing in the first place.  But, there really is such a thing!!!
