Sue: There is a group on Facebook called "Janome Owners Like Us" which there is a pinned post within the group where you can list your used Janome machines,etc For Sale. I wasn't sure if you've tried that already. Also on Facebook is a Sew Its For Sale group for selling used machines (all brands). Thought to mention that if you haven't already tried those sources.
Good luck. Ebay is a good source but be aware that both Ebay and Paypal take fees from the total sale which includes your sale price and any shipping costs you are charging the buyers. Julia NY |

Sue, did you ask around at other dealers to see what type of
deal they would give you? Many will give a pretty good trade-in price and
some deal with Synchrony finance which often has 60 months interest free
financing on such a large purchase.
I sold my 11000 on ebay and got much more than I would from my
dealer. I have 100% feedback, which helps, but most of it if from buying,
not selling expensive items. I did send a large flat screen TV to Panama
though.
It worked out well for me because the first time it sold the
lady backed out but I listed it again for a much higher bottom line and it sold
for more than that. If you put “free bonus” in the title it really grabs
them if you want to sell the extras. I had a bonus straight stitch plate
and foot. I also listed it with them paying exact shipping based on their
location. It still cost me money because I paid an extra $30 for a
big enough box to safely ship it. I had the original box but still put it in
another box with extra padding. I was bummed she didn’t give
feedback after all that!
eBay now has the protection for the buyer that they guarantee
a refund if the buyer doesn’t get what they paid for, so people are not as leery
as you may think, and many of them have paypal credit so they buy there instead
of a local store.
btw I listed it on Craigslist and most people expect you to
practically give it away it seems. Or, they don’t have that kind of cash
to buy it straight out.
You may want to consider keeping it if you can’t get a decent
price. I’m glad I have another machine here so I can do other stuff if the
15000 is tied up.

I attended the Jenny Haskins 2 day event where we had the chance to try out the 15000. The differences were things that made it easier for me, but may not make a difference to everyone. I really like the automatic needle threader; the machine I had before had one, and made it easier for me. The larger screen and colored icons were helpful as well. I don't know if it will make a huge difference, but I was the one who was tempted and acted on it. whatever I did can't be undone, and I accept the responsibility for it. Nobody made me buy it. The 15000 is still in the box, and I'm sure I wouldn't get enough for it if I sold it. Even though it's brand new, I'm sure people would prefer to buy one from a dealer. This isn't the first time I've done something impulsively, but this time I'm going to put it behind me instead of stewing over it. Compared to other things that have happened in my life, this doesn't rate anywhere near the top. The phrase that's it"s only money" seems to be appropriate at this point. Right now, getting something for either of them will reduce the monthly payments. All the replies I got from my original post have definitely helped me put it in perspective, and the safety suggestions made me realize that I wasn't thinking of everything, since I tend to rush into things without thinking it all through :-) Reading all your responses made me think, and use this as a sounding board. I appreciate all your advice. At last, I'm finally going to my first lesson (in 3 years) on Friday. After that, I have Jim and Diane's videos to help me figure things out. All of you helped me think of everything I need to consider. |

Thanks for the advice, and also that this list isn't the place to list it. Sometimes I overlook the obvious . I was focusing on where to try selling it. I didn't realize the 12000 is 5 years old. I'll definitely keep that in mind when I list it somewhere. I asked my dealer what I would get in a trade. He said he couldn't afford to take a trade in. Maybe because he gave away the thread and stabilizer? Hopefully that, the large hoop, the thread stand, and the box for the feet, it will be more appealing. |

The 12000 is more like the 11000 which I used to have.. My dealer said it wasn't worth the upgrade but when the 15000 came out, it was very different to the 11000 and the 12000, I just don't see why you say there is not much difference between the 12000 and the 15000.. I agree with Virginia. I was waiting to hear of a new machine and then went ahead and bought the 15000. It is very little different from my 12000 and I'm sorry I didn't just wait.

I traded two machines Janome 6500 & 350e when I bought my 12000 when it first came out. I got a really good deal on it. Three years later I got a really good deal from the same dealer when I purchased the 15000. It’s worth a shot to see what deal you get. You may not get as good a deal, but dealing with a local dealer you may get a better deal in the long run, as you don’t have to worry about meeting people in your home to look at your machines. I had extras for both machines. I kept the stabilizer and thread because I knew I would be using it on the next generation machine.

The big hoop I believe you are referring to is the Quilting Hoop which is also standard with the 15,000. Keep in mind Sue the 12,000 is going to be 5 years old this Fall and the 15,000 is going to be 3 years old this Fall. Perhaps you should hold on to your 12,000 a little bit longer until the Fall perhaps we will see a new machine then and remember the differences in the 12,000 and the 15,000 are not that different. Same hoops mostly same designs, same feet etc. Perhaps the Fall will bring better surprises for us. If not I am sure the 15,000 will still be available for you to make that decision then. Just saying!

This list is a poor place to sell a 12000, since most members already have a 12000 or 15000. I'm allowing this one post in order to bring up some important points.
- Regarding your optional big hoop, you'll want to keep that because it will fit on the 15000.
- Regarding the thread and stabilizer, you are probably better off bundling it with the machine as a special freebie.
- As you point out eBay is not a great venue and it's expensive.
- The "Sew It's For Sale" list is better, but you still have the issues of trust and shipping.
- Selling local is best, using something like Craig's List. You still have to be careful, as there are scammers everywhere. We recommend cash only terms, meeting at the police station or a very public place.
- Don't discount the idea of trading it in. No, you won't get top dollar, but you also will not have a lot of hassle. Don't be afraid to negotiate with your dealer.
