Titanium needles

Are gold colored needles always titanium? I have some Superior top stitch needles that I bought to use with some metallic thread that I bought at a quilt show and the package doesn't say anything about them being Titanium but they are gold colored. Is there any way to tell looking at the shank?

I do have some titanium needles that I occasionally use for regular sewing projects on my 6600 but after Jim's warning don't use them for machine embroidery on my 15000.

Thanks,

Disappointed in learning that gold coloring is not the same thing as gold, Jim says:
The Superior website does have some titanium topstitch needles, so it's possible that's what you have. They appear to be Organ, and as far as I know the only gold needles Organ makes are titanium coated.

I don't mean to dissuade people from using titanium needles. They do last longer and can be very helpful with some fabrics and threads. The main thing to avoid is using them forever! If you are the type of person who only changes needles when they break, don't use titanium needles. If you take whatever length of time you use an ordinary needle for, and multiply it by 4 for titanium, you should be fine.

This is what I use and they are for embroidery, here is a description from where I get them

Schmetz Gold Titanium Embroidery Needles 14/90
Schmetz
Slightly rounded point for embroidery on most fabrics. Enlarged eye accommodates special application threads. Titanium Nitride ceramic coating improves needle wear resistance in high stitch count applications and penetration of coarse or densely woven materials.

I do not use them all the time only when I am doing something that is dense or gives me looping problems.
