Dual foot wouldn't feed ...!?

Pru Joy

Well that has surprised me ... I wanted to sew a piece of fabric with fairly stiff interfacing on the wrong side, to another un-interfaced piece of fabric, which was against the feed dogs.  I had the zig zag plate & the dual feed foot.  But when I commenced sewing it would not feed at all, nothing!  I did test the sewing on just plain fabric & it worked.

I then changed the plate to the straight stitch & tried again, nothing!  So then I removed the dual feed foot & used the ordinary zig zag foot, Yay, it feeds perfectly.   Soooo, I am stumped as to why this is so.  I would have thought the dual feed foot would feed fine with a few layers, maybe it was the stiff interfacing in the middle of the two fabrics ...?

Any insight most appreciated

If it won't feed it's probably because you didn't "engage" the mechanism to make it work.
After you screw the foot onto the needle bar be sure to pull the mechanism down and forward to lock it onto the foot.
Then all should be well. Almost everyone makes this mistake at least once!

Are you sure that the dual feed in engaged.  Sometimes the little gizmo at the back needs to be popped into its resting spot.  If it is not the fabric will not feed or at least not well.

Did you check to be sure the finger/lever in the back was fully engaged when you put on the foot? I've had it pop/slip out when I was sewing something bulky so had to keep an eye on it. It wasn't something I could hear but it was clear that the layers weren't moving together.

Well I think I have found the reason for the dual feed foot not feeding my sandwich of fabrics - I hadn't properly attached the top lever.

I found this by reattaching the foot and this time ensuring I watched where I attached the top lever.  I then tried the same sandwich & et voila it fed perfectly!

I had used the dual feed foot NOT properly attached for quite a few projects using seams, bizarre that it seemed to work fine all that time.

Just thought I'd mention there is a video on how to attach the dual feed holder in the help videos and in Horizon Link Suite - plus instructions in the manual on page 20.

It seems the manual either calls it dual feed or Acufeed foot.  AcuFil refers to the system of quilting in the hoop.

Any idea what Acu means?  Does it mean 'accurate'?

Thanks so much everyone for those on paying MORE attention to engaging the lever.

I was following the manual instructions but you can see much better on the Help movie.  Plus there is quite a definite CLICK when it engages (which the soundless video can't show).  I am wised up on it now.

I was adapting the sewing machine cover that I had made for my 9700, I feel much better now that the 15000 has its own dust protector.  We live in a rural area where very fine dust blows in constantly from the dirt road.
