How to print template fr iPad apps?

Pru Joy

I have been unable to work out how to print a template of a design that I have opened in the iPad apps, either AcuEdit or AcuDesign. ย I have tried to find instructions as to how to do this with no success.

So far, in order to print a template, I have had to edit the design in HorizonLink on my laptop which seems to mean that I cannot use the iPad apps ... There must be a way as that would be ridiculous, I just about always need a template for positioning.

Always ridiculous, Jim says:

There is no capability in AcuEdit to make a template. However you can do it in AcuDesign, but it's not obvious. First open the design in the editor. Next tape the box with the arrow coming out of it in the top right corner, left of the question mark. Choose JEF as the format. A pop up will appear with options to mail, print or export. Choose Print. This will print you a template with a small crosshair in the middle. Note that to print with the iPad you must have a wireless printer supporting Air Print.

Yippee, that works! ย Thanks Jim, I had opened that but had no idea what "export to file" meant & so had never clicked on the JEF format & thus never seen the print option ... ๐Ÿ˜ฃ

There is an app for printing! I have 4 printers and didnโ€™t want to get another one but I found HandyPrint here:ย http://www.netputing.com/applications/handyprint-v5/

It is โ€˜donation wareโ€™ but you can get a free trial to test it out. I have it installed on my MacBookPro (which I run wirelessly) and it will see all of the printers on my home network that are connected to other computers in the house. I was pleasantly surprised that I could print this way to either my laser printer or my color printer downstairs. If you have more than 1 Mac you can load this on all of them if you want!ย

Sure is cheaper than getting a new printer!ย

(I have no affiliation with the computer except that of a happy customer!)

Barb, I have the Ipad that came with the Horizon 15K, looked at the site and guess it should work with the Ipad I have?ย  Not too familiar with this computer stuff, thanks, Claire S.

Not being Barb, Jim risks an answer anyway:
Any software that simulates an AirPrint printer (which is what Barb recommended) will work with all iPads.

Thanks Jim, I know I can count on your answer also, soooo smart, Claire s.

Sorry to bother you but have family member who insists that since my printer is not wi-fi I will not be able to do this from the Ipad,ย  thanks, Claire S.

Also not WiFi-enabled, Jim says:
If you don't have an AirPrint capable printer you can find inexpensive utilities that will pretend to be a printer for the iPad, allowing you to use the printer you have. On a Mac I use Printopia. A recent post mentioned one for Windows. It was just a few days ago, so it should be fairly easy to find.

Not true, the printer has to be connected to your Mac, by WiFi, wired network, or USB. It will be shared using the mentioned apps like an AirPrint printer independent of its connection type. But of course you need an WiFi access point in your network to connect with the iPad. But I'm sure you already have one...

HTH, Mattes
