Merry Christmas to all!

Jim Stutsman

So once again Christmas is upon us. Diane and I would like to wish all of our members the happiest of holidays, and thank you for joining our little group. As is the custom for many at this time of year we offer up our own twisted version of The Night Before Christmas, preserving the first and last lines. We hope that all your projects are finished and you can relax and enjoy it with a nice cup of cocoa.

The Night Before Christmas - Sewing Edition

’Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, except for my spouse;

The projects stacked high on the sewing room table,

In the hope that she’d finish them if she were able.

The day, it had ended, and gone was the light

while the sewing room blazed, being ever so bright.

Reclined in my easy chair, with a dog on my lap,

I quietly dozed in a nice winter’s nap.

When out of the sewing room there came such a clatter,

I leaped from my chair to see what was the matter.

The sobbing, the wailing, her teeth they did gnash,

“I’m one square short, and there’s none in my stash!”

All over that room, we searched high and low,

But no trace was found, the square did not show.

I pondered a bit, while drying her tears,

No quilt shop would open ’til after New Year’s.

A solution was needed, both simple and slick,

I needed an answer and I needed it quick.

In search of ideas, my mind was aflame,

We had lots of fabric, but it wasn’t the same.

Now measure, now fold it, now cut off a row,

No matter what action, the problem will show.

I thought of my closet, and ran down the hall,

and looked through my shirts, inspecting them all.

As dry leaves through an open garage fly,

An idea came to me, just something to try.

I grabbed a white shirt, one I had that was new,

A good bit of fabric, and it’s all cotton too.

With a rotary cutter I made my attack,

And cut a new square right out of the back.

Her brow, it was wrinkled, I detected a smirk.

“It’s really no match, and I know it won’t work!”

Ignoring her doubts, I went straight to the ‘net,

And found a design I proceeded to get.

I hooped up the fabric on the sewing room table

And inserted lettering to make a nice label.

With embroidery added, she stitched in the piece

And quilted it up with some all-cotton fleece.

On Christmas we rose and dressed up in our finest,

I put on my new shirt, with it’s back somewhat minus.

We greeted our guests, while unwrapping in shifts

Until the whole family was surrounded by gifts.

The logs in the fireplace, cracking and roaring

While the heat in the room set my pulse rate a’soaring.

My family said, over kids’ happy racket,

“For heaven’s sake Dad, take off that wool jacket!”

I nodded and smiled, my brow dripping in sweat,

“I’m fine for the moment, not ready just yet.”

It’s my wish for you now that your projects go right

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Hi Jim!  I'm new to this group, but have already learned a great deal - thanks to you!  I have the 15000 that 'died' a couple weeks ago.  I found a new dealer who immediately ordered a new board from Janome.  I took my machine to him the day after I had called him, he had already ordered the board and it came in two days later!  Alas, the board had a 'nick' in it, so he ordered another from Janome.  Hopefully this is the last of the problems.  Hope to have my 15000 back home in the next couple of weeks so I can start playing with the embroidery functions!

Merry Christmas to you and yours.  Hope your holidays are filled with fun!

Merry Christmas!  I just got back from Midnight Mass.  I sing in the choir so I am exhausted as we sing for ½ hour before Mass starts and then Mass is another hour.  It was a beautiful service - I enjoy it each and every Christmas and am glad to be there to welcome our Saviour into the world once again and into our hearts.

Thanks for the poem - it is so true.  I was sewing today before we went to our daughter's for Christmas Eve fun, and didn't finish what I had planned.  The kids will enjoy things when they are finished and be just as happy.  There is so many gifts under the tree for the 4 little ones that they won't miss mine.

Again Merry Christmas.

Not a creature was stirring, except for my spouse;
