Thank you for your reply Jim, can you answer another question please. Is there any way you can stop to blessed bobbin message coming up, it drives me nuts coming up and then leaving yards on the bobbin and refusing to allow the machine to sew on.

I had a feeling that the machine did go back when the thread broke, I needed clarification.

A lot of people are getting the low bobbin message prematurely. Janome has announced, but not yet shipped, a kit for dealers to adjust the sensor to a sane level and they have also promised an update to this function in the first major update coming in June. Until one or both of these things happen, about all you can do is adjust the sensor to its lowest value and hope for the best.

I thought that might be the case Jim, it really drives my daft when the machine stops, refuses to sew any further when there is about 1/8th of an inch of thread left on a bobbin. Its such a waste of thread and very frustrating.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for answering this question about the remaining bobbin thread. I am another person who has been perturbed about so much thread being left on the bobbin. It happened, too, when I was doing a class at my dealer's and I was told that that's how the 12000 is set up. I'm so glad to hear that there's a fix coming soon. I have a question, though. Is there any problem that can occur if I tie the ends of a couple of leftover bobbin thread together. I confess I've done it twice and it seemed to work well as bobbin thread doesn't need to feed through the needle and the bobbin thread is thin so it doesn't make a very large knot. What is your information about tying it together and winding both (or more) to fill a bobbin? Thanks, Jim.

Tying thread onto a leftover bobbin could be OK if you make the knot very small and tight. I would suggest a knot like this one:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheet_bend
The only danger is that if the knot is too big and cannot pass through the tension in the bobbin case, it could cause the bobbin case to pop up, spin out, and jam the machine. That would be bad! You would eventually wind up with the knot in your stitches, which might not be a problem in embroidery, but could be a problem in quilting. Proceed with caution.
