Sewing chair

That chair from wawak looks like a really comfortable chair!  My issue is I need a tall chair for the stand up Koala desk, but I need narrow wheel base because my studio is so cramped, and because the desk has a floor board.   Most chairs come with a 25” wheel base, as does the one you show here from wawak.  It’s for stability so they don’t tip over.

I cobbled together a task chair on a narrow base from one chair (one of those mechanic stools with the motorcycle seat on it) and an office task chair, and took the back from another chair for some lumbar support.  I padded the seat with dense foam. It matches my ironing board since I covered them both with the same fabric.

The Koala chair that came with my desk had such a wide wheel base that I could not roll it close enough to the machine, since the stand up desk has a foot board that gets in the way.  It really killed my neck and back leaning forward. I notice on Sewing With Nancy they also sit quite far from the desk and lean forward so maybe the sit down desks have the same floor board in the way?

Also, the model I had seemed to be very hard, with very little padding.  We decided not to even  keep it for use in the dining bar as hubby found it uncomfortable too.

I purchased the task chair from wawak.com when my granddaughter was learning to sew & the chair with casters kept rolling with her when she pressed the footpedal.  It’s a very comfortable chair with lots of support & they have the rolling casters for it if you need them.  seat height adjusts from 16 to 21 inches.

If you need a tall chair, have you looked at drafting chairs at office supply stores?

I’ve been looking for one too.  A few years ago, I saw one at a quilt show, and it was just what I wanted.  Unfortunately, I don’t know what brand it was, and the vendor was called the Chair Lady.  I have seen the Koala chair advertised, but as has been said, it’s a lot of money.  I have the tall Koala sewing center, and need a tall chair.  The one I have is difficult to get into, and tilts slightly forward.  It doesn’t adjust forward or back.  I hate to buy a chair sight unseen, because even though the delivery  is free, I doubt the return shipping is.  Are there any retailers who carry it, so we can “try before we buy”?  I’ve seen the tall chair online for $299.  Has anyone seen it for less?  In answer to the question about an office chair vs sewing chair, if you don’t need the higher chair, Staples carries a
Tempurpedic that I wouldn’t hesitate to use as a sewing chair if it were tall.  I can adjust it to exactly the position I need.

I too have back problems and I think the bungee chair is THE BEST!!!! I have other high dollar sewing chairs (I don’t remember if they are Koala but they did come from a sewing store) and the bungee chair is the best for my back.

I suggest you take a look at the Container Store bungee chair.  It is $149 with free shipping.  It is very comfortable.  https://www.containerstore.com/s/turquoise-bungee-office-chair/d?productId=11001306&q=office%20chair   It comes in several colors.  It is easier to maneuver than my Koala chair and more comfortable.

I got a Koala chair with my Koala desk purchase and found it very uncomfortable.  I ended up exchanging it for extra feet.

I love my Koala chair! But it is very similar to an office chair I use.  I received the KoalA chair with a table purchase. And needed it because I bought the 35” table height so my chair raises high enough to reach the table. Office chairs don’t do that.

Hi all, I see the Koala sewing chair is on sale. Does anyone have this or any experience with Koala? It is a lot of money for a sewing chair, but with a bad back, comfort is a must. Would love everyone’s input on a specialty sewing chair vs. an office chair. Thank you, Pam in Central NY
