I attached the straight stitch needle plate, pressed the icon for embroidery and the needle moved from center to the left position. I am about to calibrate the hoops as I just got my machine last week

Sock embroidery
FYI Though it’s not embroidery, I use fabric paint to do things like marking the back of a garment with an “X” or letters. It would work for socks, it’s easy, quick, and doesn’t wash off.
