I traded my 12000 for an M7 Continental ( no embroidery) and all the feet fit. The needle threader is still the same old pain in the neck. I just pretend it doesn't exist. Not an exact comparison here

I spray baste with Sullivan's and then quilt. Is that what you are talking about. My needle does get gunk on it but it doesn't seem to bother the machine. I do all my quilts this way. Lori TX

I use the acufil alot and don't have that problem but I always do the one stitch stop for each thread start. Are you doing that?
