New to Janome

Hello,  I am new to Janome machine embroidery with a 500E and stumbled onto this group via YouTube.  If anyone can offer any websites or fun embroidery projects I'd love to hear about them.  I'd like to create a few Christmas items if I learn how to use my new machine quickly.

15000 V3 Embroidery Unit Problem

I am having a problem.  Occasionally when I have a needle break it messes up my yellow bobbin holder in the bottom of the machine and I have to replace it.  I have had to do this 3 times already.  I have had my machine 2 years.  Is there any way I can prevent this from happening?  I am embroidering on the lowest speed (400).  It seems to happen if there is a "bird nest" that forms and then the needle breaks.  I am also using pre-wound bobbins.

Hi Jim, she couldn’t get it to work on the machine I brought to the shop or another customer’s machine when I was there on Monday.  I will bring the machine back to her tomorrow to have another try.  It’s a two hour trip so not easy to get there!  I agree that the program is ‘working ‘. Just not doing it!  Grrr.  If no luck tomorrow I’ll ask my son to try, he is clever with computers, has fixed several computers related problems for me previously.  If he succeeds I’ll let you know, thanks for your help, regards, Mary

To Cat (who is not Cheryl)---Is the HP needleplate  different from the single hole straight stitch needleplate that came with the S7?  Mine came with both a Zigzag and a straight stitch plate as standard.   This is getting confusing!

You can use the HP foot on other top end models, without the HP plate.  Unless you have a machine with HP capability, in which case the foot and plate probably comes as standard, don’t waste your money on the plate (I can tell you from experience that it does not work on the 12000).  Just buy and use the foot and change the stitch to the “L side” straight stitch.  If you forget to change the stitch, the HP foot has a hole where the needle drops in the central position and you won’t break the needle.  I use my HP foot on my S7 without any problems.  But use your common sense!

Am I in the correct group to ask questions about my new machine?     Thanks.

Hi, Kathy,

I'm not Cheryl, LOL, but the HP needle plate and foot started with the 9400 and the system became available to the 15000 with the v.3.0 update. It is a special needle plate, single hole...not zigzag...and there are now two presser feet...the original HP presser foot, and the HP2 presser foot.  It is quite a nice system for piecing and whatever, but if the machine you put it on does not recognize (there is a sensor on the needle plate and internal software in the machine) it, you really could have bad stuff happening.

Cheryl----Hmmmmm, I don't even know what the HP system is! Never heard of it.  Can you explain what it is?   One thing I find very frustrating is that the Janome America website is lacking in information and always suggests contacting your dealer for questions.   Or, the website gets jammed and closes down. I do have current-standard computers, so I think the problem is not on my end, though my Internet provider may have something to do with it.
THank you for your reply.   Oh, the Skyline models start at S3 and go through S9 at the moment. I believe the S3 and S5 have a narrower zigzag maximum width, so 9mm feet would not work on those. I am not 100% absolutely sure on this, but I believe I saw this once on a model-comparison chart.   THe S7 does have the 9mm zigzag maximum width.      Kathy Strabel

If AcuEdit can talk to the S9 then there is nothing else to try - it’s working. That would mean that there is something in AcuSetter that is the problem. You can delete the app & download it again but I doubt that will help. Does AcuSetter work for your dealer using her iPad & her S9?

Hi Jim, thanks for that AcuEdit doesn’t seem to be a problem, although I couldn’t figure out how to load a design to the program, you’re right the tutorial is very hmmm ‘ordinary’. When I need an idiots guide to the Apps.  I’m presuming I load a USB to the machine and open it and the app sees the design in the hoop?  Anyway machine and iPad are still not friends and AcuSetter is still not working.  Any thing I am missing?  Regards and thanks, Mary

not sure if i am just not seeing the replies...but if there are none.  a few simple things did you change the bobbin holder and what needle are you using?
have you successfully sewn in embroidery before?  if so, try to set up using the same design you have sewn successfully before

Re: Sewing Kit Pro

It is definitely worth it.  Everything you need for sewing is already set up. It can scan for major pattern companies for photos, etc.

I have the S5 and 12000 and interchange the feet. I do use the HP foot and needle plate and love it. However, I have a note on the front of my machine to remind me to set in on mode 1, 04 stitch. I have broken needles when I forgot.

Enjoy your machine.

I’m not sure why Janome doesn’t upgrade the 9 mm machines with the acuflex system to accommodate the HP system, but they must have a reason, but I haven’t been given a good answer when I’ve asked the question at Janome events where a Janome Representative is present.

I agree with you Mattes. As much as I would love a Jim version more there probably isn’t enough of a purchasing audience to make it worth his time. And it does take a bit of work to get going but worth it.

Re: acuSetter and S9 won’t talk to each other

You can verify that it's not a WiFi issue by connecting through AcuEdit. If that also doesn't work, it's likely a connectivity problem. Assuming that you've done that, or that AcuEdit works, there is only one other area that could be the problem. Both AcuEdit and AcuSetter, on first launch, take you through a tutorial on how to use the app. At the end of the AcuEdit "tour" you choose whether to connect to the 15000 or the S9. AcuSetter doesn't do this. Instead it chooses the machine at the same time that you select a hoop. By default the hoop selection is SQ14 unless you change it. The S9 has the same hoop size, but it's SQ14a. So if you are using the SQ14a hoop on the S9, but don't change to SQ14a in AcuSetter, then the app is trying to connect to a 15000, not an S9. Hoop selection is not mentioned in the tour pages. I suspect they were trying to keep the screen free of as many buttons as possible, but making machine selection dependent on the hoop choice is not great design.

In app development simplicity is very hard!

My wife is using "MyStuff Pro" for years to keep track of her sewing products on fairs. It's a generic and very powerful inventory app, and developer support is marvelous!

The app takes some time to be set up for a specific purpose, but is definitely worth a try...

I couldn't develop such an app in less than years...

hi Jim I am trying to get my IPad and S9 to communicate, both have been loaded properly with no luck.  Took both IPad and machine to my local dealer, Joy, the shop owner tried too, even contacted Janome in Sydney Australia with no luck.  I have the best internet connection here, it’s good in Young where the shop is so that is not the problem.  Everything works fine individually just not talking!  Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks and regards Mary.  PS, love ThreadBook, sooo much easier to select threads after you so kindly added my GEM threads.
