Pam, please don't tell the queen, but when I ship DVDs I am obligated to put the cost of the physical item (i.e. DVD disc with or without content) on the customs form. I use a cost of $1 US, which works out to around 65p. I would certainly hope that with VAT and post office bribe, er "collection charge", would round up to not much more than a pound!

Your Tutorial sounds wonderful and I would love one but even the discounted price takes it into the import duty range for packages for UK 12000 owners
$29.95 US = £19.05 UK
UK purchasers would have to pay £12.67 that is VAT@ £4.67 + £8 charge from post office for the privilege of collecting the vat that's a total of $19.92 US on top of the cost of the DVD sometimes people can get lucky & they let them through without charging but with my past experience can't take the chance.

Re: Foot Book

Unfortunately the Android system is very fragmented, as each device has its own customized version. This makes it very difficult to program for, as you need hundreds of devices to test on. We can't afford to buy hundreds of devices, and I probably don't have enough years left to develop hundreds of different versions. If they ever come out with something that will allow one app to work on all those different devices, we'll definitely take another look.

Normally when you change phones you just restore your apps from a previous
backup. The iPhone activation process walks you through that. However you
can always install it from the App Store without paying a second time. Just
open the App Store, search for FootBook, and click the "Install" button. If
it shows a price, then you are using a different Apple ID than you used
when you purchased it.

We've just updated the app to version 2.3, which adds a category for "Feet
by application". It lets you pick a sewing task, and then offers a list of
feet that can be used.

Thanks for buying our app!

With regard to Closed Captions, cost is not a factor for us since we do every aspect of making the video. It has more to do with cutting and shifting bits of audio and timing everything right. It's ironic, because both Diane and I have some age-related hearing loss and we have to turn on the CC for some TV shows, especially those from the BBC. I have some ideas and will include them with your order. No worries about shipping, as we are paying for it regardless of where it goes.

Hi Jim and Diane,

Thank you for making this video even though there is no Closed Captions but
I will try to understand by watching the movie as I am hearing impaired. I
saw the sample movie and it shows how it is done as I know there is more
explanation in voice in it. I understand it is costly to make Closed
Captions.

Thanks again and I have ordered it. Hope it is free shipping to Canada.

After almost a year in development, we are happy to announce our video guide
for the Janome Horizon Memory Craft 12000, Volume 1. This volume covers the
sewing functions of the machine, including all of the SET screens as well as
all of the Application (T-shirt) screens. We've also included 3 bonus
videos. The guide is provided on an interactive DVD, which can be used on
any computer that has a DVD drive and a web browser, Windows, Mac or Linux.

the owner's manual, or is not included in the manual at all.

We've prepared a sample video to give you some idea of what they are like.
Because of bandwidth restrictions, we have greatly compressed it. This
results in much lower quality, but all of the content is there. Here's the

Re: When to change needles

Patricia Ward

Vicki,
As a rule of thumb I try to watch the number of stitches in a design and I will add up the stitches and if I reach over 100K then I change the needle.  Now I am using the regular Organ or the BP Organ needles depending on the fabric.  If a needle starts to get dull you will get loops in the embroidery.  I don't like to push it to that limit when you consider the quality of your work.  Needles are not that expensive if you buy them in bulk.
For regular sewing -- a quilt or a garment, I put a new needle in for each project.
For paper piecing I will use one of the older needles that I saved in a special film cannister ( remember those?-- I still have a few lying around).  SInce paper dulls the needle I use those old needles for that purpose and so far I have not had any problems with the seams on the pieced block.

To me a needle is very important.. what is the use of having this TOL machine if you are going to skimp on one part of it?

That is just my take on it...
Pat

Pressure when quilting

Jeana David

Hi, I have just posted pics of a baby quilt i made with my 12000.
I am confused about adjusting pressure when using decorative quilting stitches and a quilt sandwich. You dont seem to be able to use these stitches within the preset functions ie the tshirt icon. so if using a quilting sandwich and these stitches,is the pressure changed automatically as on my other Pfaff machine? Is there an overide? I looked on the stitch altering screen but could not find anything. Also I know this sounds silly but what is the DFT button for ? is it to do with differential feed?I cant find it in the manual
I was using the stitch in the ditch acufeed foot ,should I have used foot F as suggested on screen.
The stitches seemed fine but hte feed was not totally even so I am not sure what to do in future and would be grateful for advice.
Finally is your dvd available in the UK? Many thanks
Jeana david

Re: 12000 Video Guide

YAY-- Jim!

For those who are still wondering if they should purchase this DVD, I would like to say that I have seen these videos and this is really a very complete professional guide to using all aspects of your sewing on this marvelous machine. The videos point out features that you may have overlooked and give helpful hints that will give you more options and better results in your sewing and quilting.

My association with Jim and Diane goes back to the 9000 days when Jim wrote a program to do lettering on the 9000 more easily than Janome had made it for us and then he also wrote a program for using the no 5 hoop to the fullest so we could do more embroidery in a hooping.  And now look at the size of our hoops... who would have imagined!   I don't think that there are two people who understand the features and workings of these machines more than they do. And Diane is a very accomplished seamstress, digitizer, and teacher.

Great job Diane and Jim and best wishes for continued success in your endeavors to help all of us sewists.

Just ordered it Jim, many thanks to you and Diane for all the hard work you do on our behalf. I do not know what we would do without you.

Just now my machine is with the dealer to have a light replaced which sheared off. I have had to wait since November for a container to arrive from Japan for the part, why on earth they could not have put one in a padded envelope and sent it I just do not know!! The machine is also to be serviced, I have had it over 12 months and it has worked hard, so I guess it needed it.

When I spoke to my dealer about the light he said he had not heard of it happening here, I sent him to your site to read how many have had the same problem in the US. Similarly with Janome here in the UK.....The MD here is someone I knew years ago.....he got an email too.
