Re: Announcing the Horizon Memory Craft 12000 Video Guide

This may now be a non-issue. As I started packaging up DVDs today, I was stunned to learn that international postage rates on parcels MORE THAN DOUBLED in the postage rate increase that took place last Sunday. For example, Australia, formerly $3.67 is now $6.55. However I also found out that a "Large envelope" (meaning at least 11 1/2" x 6 1/8") could be sent for just $2.90. So I dropped the disk mailer (5" x 5") into a large envelope and attached the lengthy Customs form for each of the international orders we could fill. We then trekked to the Post Office to wait on queue for the glacially slow process of handing each parcel to a clerk for inspection. We already had electronic postage attached, so there was only paperwork for them to shuffle through. I was somewhat nervous, because I got the "By the book" clerk who crosses every T twice. She challenged my packaging, saying that it might get bent in shipping. I replied that was OK. Then she shocked me by saying that I no longer needed the paperwork for a large envelope, and could simply drop them in the letterbox without waiting on queue!

So rest assured non-US residents, your orders will arrive without the need for Customs, VAT, duty, bribery, or any other monetary expense. They're just letters! Really stiff letters that slide around inside the gigantic envelopes. If I get some smaller envelopes I can send them for even less, and you still won't have to pay the postman. If he/she should ask, just say it's kind of a catalog from an annoying American company. That's close enough to the truth to avoid confession, and we will be as annoying as we can to fulfill that part of the statement.

Hi Pam, Jim,

In that case I'll order one too.

I was going to offer to get hold of them when I go to Houston in October, but now I won't have to wait that long.

After almost a year in development, we are happy to announce our video guide for the Janome Horizon Memory Craft 12000, Volume 1. This volume covers the sewing functions of the machine, including all of the SET screens as well as all of the Application (T-shirt) screens. We've also included 3 bonus videos. The guide is provided on an interactive DVD, which can be used on any computer that has a DVD drive and a web browser, Windows, Mac or Linux. The information in the videos is either covered in much greater depth than the owner's manual, or is not included in the manual at all.

We've prepared a sample video to give you some idea of what they are like. Because of bandwidth restrictions, we have greatly compressed it. This results in much lower quality, but all of the content is there. Here's the link for the sample:

The introductory price of the video guide is $39.95, with free shipping worldwide. However we have prepared a special page for members of this group where you can get a $10 discount, bringing it down to $29.95. Here's the link for the member page:

Hi, do you use sign language, I do. I lip read depending on person's way of speaking. I was born deaf and cannot hear anything except very loud noises. Hearing aids never helped. My speech is not that good, my husband also deaf speaks better. Oh yes I was so glad to know there is one like me who owns the 12000 machine. I bought it year and half ago and didn't use it much. Plan to do more this year. Where are you? I live in Vancouver area in BC.

The player is built to be universal, so it works in all situations. However it's almost certainly built to work only with the standard "system" monitor rather than external monitors.

If you had problems with the sample, you will have problems with the DVD. By chance did you get an orange square with an error message inside the video area? Depending on the browser, some need to have Adobe Flash Player installed. I've tested the videos with several versions of Windows, and browsers back to Internet Explorer 7. What version of Windows are you using, and what browser?

Regarding monitors and displays, one reason an external monitor won’t display something that will display on the laptop screen could be that the settings on the external monitor were set to a resolution not high enough to display the video. You might check your monitor settings – write down what you have then play with the various ratios. Since you will have written down what your external monitor settings were, you can always go back to them.  A second thought, if the monitor is over 3 years old, you may not have a high enough resolution available to project what your laptop is capable of doing.

The machine only comes with one foot holder, but you can buy a 7mm foot holder so you can use 7mm feet on the machine. It sounds like the person you bought it from had purchased a 7mm foot holder, but forgot to put the original 9mm holder back on the machine. Don't use the machine until you get the correct foot holder, or use only 7mm feet if you have them.

With regard to Closed Captions, cost is not a factor for us since we do every aspect of making the video. It has more to do with cutting and shifting bits of audio and timing everything right. It's ironic, because both Diane and I have some age-related hearing loss and we have to turn on the CC for some TV shows, especially those from the BBC. I have some ideas and will include them with your order. No worries about shipping, as we are paying for it regardless of where it goes.

Our software does not give us the option to make the music switchable. We initially considered not using it, but then there were "dead" spots with no sound, making it seem like the audio quit working. However I just had Diane check it, as she is very sensitive to background noise. She found that the sample video has softer voice than the actual DVD. This is due to the compression of the sample, and won't be a factor on the actual DVD.
