Re: Error Message

My ipad is using OS11 as well could you walk me through how to get my AcuDesign to work correctly with it again?
Thanks in advance Jim

I spoke too soon with regard to the Dropbox fiasco. With iOS 11 it's still viable and fairly simple to EXPORT a design to Dropbox, but IMPORT is more complicated. Unless Janome updates the app, it's going to be seriously crippled with regard to import options. Hopefully they are already working on an update.

EXPORT procedure (iOS 10 or later ONLY)
1. Open the App Store and update Dropbox if it is listed in the updates.

2. Open the Dropbox app and let it do its "housekeeping" if requested.

3. When sending to Dropbox look in the last row of icons (the gray ones) for "Save to Dropbox". Note that this will not default to the folder "Artistic" inside the "Apps" folder on Dropbox. You will have to navigate there yourself before saving by tapping "Choose a different folder". The plus side is that you can save it wherever you want now, no longer tied to the Artistic folder.

IMPORT procedure (iOS 11 ONLY)
1. Open the "Files" app on your iPad. This is new with iOS 11.

2. In the Locations (left column) tap "Dropbox".

3. Tap folders as needed until you find the one containing your design. It will NOT have an icon for the design. Instead it will show the AcuEdit icon, along with a little cloud if the design has not yet been downloaded to the iPad. All you will have to go on is the file name.

4. Tap the file you want. A white screen will open with the name of the file in the center. Tap the square icon in the top right corner of that screen. This will open a dialog where you can select AcuDesign from the top row of apps. If you have not previously opened AcuDesign it will open with a message about being busy. Let it finish opening and repeat the entire process.

AcuDesign is far from perfect, but it's the most flexible app that Janome has for the iPad, being the only one that can open designs from sources other than the machine. It's worth noting that AcuDesign was created for Janome by Wings Systems, and their app DRAWings Snap has the same problem with Dropbox. Dropbox sent notices to all developers last year to advise of the ending of the version 1 API, which most apps were using. I am a very tiny, nearly unknown developer and I got the notice. I fixed our apps well in advance of the cutoff. The fact that Wings Systems did not is puzzling. Their most recent update of DRAWings Snap was 7 months ago and the most recent review is a one-star from April.

Apps of this type are VERY expensive to develop, and the market for them is very small. That's why they are pricey. This may effect their priority in updating the app.

I just had my machine updated to the 3.0 with the new needle threader.  The needle threader worked fine at the store, but now doesn’t  work, even with a size 14 needle.   I had problems in the past with the needle threader and it was fixed.  I am not please with the new update.

Check for something caught in the carriage that prevents it from moving. Other than that there is no "home remedy", as the covers will likely need to come off. Sorry to say it is probably dealer time.

Re: Error Message

It is very odd that you were able to download from your Dropbox Jim, apparently there has been a protocol change with the Dropbox app and AcuDesign has not been updated to continue to be integrated. I am getting the “Dropbox.com error 400 as well. Janome it seems has REALLY dropped the ball on this one. I am irritated that my free app does not work as it should, but I am angry that my lettering module that I paid $49 for is now USELESS. Something that was so easy is now a headache ........READ THIS: On September 28, 2017, API v1 will be turned off, so it's time to move to API v2.
If you want your app's Dropbox integration to keep working, upgrade to API v2.
For details about the deprecation, check out the blog post.
Please acknowledge that API v1 is being deprecated by clicking the box below. If you do not acknowledge that you're aware of the deprecation, your app's users will be notified as part of the deprecation timeline.
I understand that API v1 is being deprecated

I'm aware of the API change, as I have removed Dropbox from our apps that use it. My iPad is using iOS 11, which supports app extensions. In that situation Dropbox is managed externally from the AcuDesign app. This is also available in iOS 10, but not iOS 9, which is where many of the free iPads given with 15000s are stuck. I can't speak for Janome, but it's possible that they did not want to spend the money to have the app revised to use the new API. They may deal with it in a future update, rather than doing it now.

I had the same message. I haven’t gotten it figured out yet. I didn’t get a CD so I can’t uninstall the program.

Perhaps the first thing to do would be to see what version you currently have installed. Open Horizon Link Suite and click the icon in the top left corner of the window. From the menu that pops up click "About".. This will reveal the version. If it is 1.31 then you have already installed the update. If it is something else you may need to uninstall Horizon Link Suite, then install it from CD, then finally install the update.

Thanks for the link, it looks very interesting. I have not received the link from Janome for the new software. I had my machine updated and purchased the new foot package last week.

I have the same error message. It is very upsetting. If all my files are in Dropbox, how do I get them into iCloud? I don’t understand this. May have to go to a computer store to have this done. Too bad, because it was so easy to use. The AcuEdit still works fine, it is only the AcuDesign that does not communitcate withe the dropbox . Sent from my iPad

I've just tested AcuDesign with Dropbox on my iPad and it works fine. However you MUST update Dropbox first. Before trying to save to Dropbox from AcuDesign open the Dropbox app on your iPad. It will say that it needs to do some housekeeping, and will update the folders it has stored on your iPad. Once that's done you can open AcuDesign and save as before.

I downloaded the Janome Screen Save Tool and it works for 11.0.2 on my ipad.    My Janome is Version 3.0.

I am having trouble with the AcuSetter App.  Janome told me to delete the app,  totally turn off the ipad and then reload the app.  I don't know if this is what you did or not.

Re: iPad and Janome Screen Saver Tool

I tried closing the app, no go. I even deleted it re-downloaded and re-installed.

We don't have access to our 15000 for a couple of weeks due to being away from home, so I cannot test. Is anyone else having a problem with the Screen Saver app on iPad using iOS 11?

Jim, I haven't talked with you in years.  You are still helping everyone!!  Well the red dots highlight the area and allow you to move the alignment of the black dots.  I have seen them twice on my iPad, but 100 times they have not shown up.  I just tried it again, thinking I don't need the dots, but there is nothing to move the dots this way and they won't move.  I was going to email you privately, but I haven't been on the lists for a while.  I just went from the Janome 10,000 to the 15,000. I am out of the loop!   I will need your full email address.  Is it Jim@yahoogroups???  Thank you for helping me!!

iPad and Janome Screen Saver Tool

Deb Keldrauk

My screen saver tool is not working, I recently updated my iPad to OS 11 that may be the problem.  (I also had my machine updated to 3.0 the Quiltmaker update but it seems like an app issue). Is anyone else aware of this problem and does anyone know how I can report this to Janome? Contacting them for support online seems impossible!

Thanks

Deb in CA

It's possible that the app is not ready for iOS 11, though that may not be the problem. Try double-tapping the HOME button, find Screen Saver, and swipe it UP to terminate it. Then launch it again. That sometimes fixes this type of issue.

Microquilter Thread

I ended up getting the 7002 Lace White.  I wrote them with the confirmation of the order to feel free to change it if they have a cooler color.  My quilt is blues and silver, so I wanted a cool tone.  Thanks for the information.

Cas

I have #7003, Off White. I'd say it's more a very pale cream/muslin (like #1949 Madeira Polyneon). The 7007 Silver is warm rather than cold, just a hint of taupe (like 1949 Madeira Polyneon). The 7026 Taupe is a warm medium Khaki (like 1738 Polyneon). I'm comparing these to the Madeira thread chart I have. And yes, there is a lot of thread on these cones. What's striking is that even if it doesn't quite match your fabric, it is so fine that you can't see the difference.

Thank you so much for sharing this PDF File with us.  I know that everyone, especially me appreciates your kindness and thoughtfulness.

I recently had my machine updated but have not looked at it or downloaded the Horizon Update.

I've had the dreaded "Shingles" (second time) and my body/mind or what is left of it is still not up to par!

Again, thank you.

Janome has released a bulletin about the new upgrade to Horizon Link Suite with the addition of the AcuStitch Tool function. You can read the bulletin by going to the Janome Global website and selecting Downloads and then Bulletins. Or try this link: http://www.janome.co.jp/e/e_downloads/pdf/janomebulletin/JTM-1038_AcuStitchTool.pdf

I will also upload the file to the files page of this group.  I've played around with the new tool and it's quite nice, but it does require some fiddling to get the spacing etc just right. Have fun!

AcuSetter

I have the new 15,000.  I am having trouble with the 15,000 and my i-pad pro communicating.  I can start out fine with the bulls eye that you level for the green mark and take the picture, but I don't get the red dots to match with the black marks.  Has anyone ever experienced this problem and if so did you get it solved.  I have tried everything.  My i-pad and sewing machine have full wifi bars.  We have moved the router, tried a wifi extender and still can't get it working.  I have been in contact with Janome and they are also trying to help figure out what seems to be blocking the signal.  Can anyone offer a suggestion?  Getting discouraged.

Cindy

I don't think that this is WiFi-related. The red dots you see in the AcuSetting instructions are ONLY shown in the instructions as a way of highlighting them. You won't see them in the app. Just line up the black lines and you are good to go. If you really are having issues getting the designs from you machine into AcuSetter we will need more information. That would best be done off-list, so email jim@... in that case.

Good to know it’s strong.  It’s from Superior Threads.  I have some in my cart now.  Seems like a cone will last forever.  I never heard of it, so thanks for sharing the info!
Cas

Ps.  I’m quilting a Christmas quilt decorative wall hanging right now and have a tip.  I’m using my old mattress topper for the batting/backing.  It is already quilted so I just had to cut the elastic off the sides and glue baste my quilt top to it.  It is in great shape since it was always covered, but the sides got torn from DH trying to pull it tight.  Lol.  I have having no issues sewing through it.  So, you never know what things you can recycle.

I’m using silver metallic embroidery thread now for embellishing the stars and shapes, but I think I may try this Microquilter thread for most of the background.  What a timely post.  I’m thinking lace white, because it looks like it has a grayish/bluish tint?  Have you used that shade Jan?

I also tried it recently with Superior MicroQuilter thread instead of monofilament. To see the Microquilter, you almost needed a magnifier. It is a 100 wt polyester that I sometimes use for ditch stitching to stabilize large quilts. It is a surprisingly strong thread too.
