12000 lite location
Joyce Daniel
Thanks a ton Betty for sending pics of the 12000 left door lite’s location. I super glued it back in place, once I finally figured where it was located. Now I can embroider w the door closed till I have the time to make it to my dealer….which will be 2018 or later. J Joyce in GA

OT Purse pattern you love
Joyce Daniel
Craftsy has some great totebag patterns, many are free. I love this site for all kinds of crafts, online classes/tutorials, and they carry great supplies I’ve never seen anywhere. I just got a large box from them for a mission trip I’m going on in the new year to teach girls and women to sew in Lima, Peru.

I made the Grace model of these and used it for years. Sooo versatile. Changed out the outer shell to match either the season or my mood. I put the handle tabs on the sides for a cross-body. Loved it to shreds. Gotta make me another one... if I can find that pattern ...rae...

Thanks for the input Ceil.
I am with you if I am going to invest the time it takes to make a nice item then I want the fabric to be the best I can afford. I shop when my local quilt shop has sales like Christmas fabric for next year when the season is over :) There are also some good buys online for the better manufactured fabrics so I usually have something suitable on hand. I steer clear of "J" fabrics for the most part although I made some nice kitchen items with some cuts of their "Buttercream" line and they came out nice and wash well too. After so many years of quilting and sewing I can tell just by a glance and quick feel if the fabric is worth my time. Have a great weekend, Deb in CA

Re: My 15000 won’t sew with polyester thread
Maria Morrow <mariamorrowquilter@...>
I took my machine to the dealer today. There was a nick or “burr” in the bobbin case which the thread was sporadically hanging up on. He sanded that smooth and it works great! He said the 15000 should not be finicky on quality brands of thread. He told me with regular sewing, the weight and type of top and bottom threads need to match. I didn’t know that either. Again, I can’t say enough good about All About Sewing in Harahan, LA! Thanks for all the input ! Sent from my iPhone

All this great conversation about purses and when I opened up an email from Sew4Home, there was a purse pattern that looked like I would like it.

Maria, don't know if mentioned before but when
this happens, open the side door and see if the thread came out of
the take-up lever. If that happens you will always have this
problem. The dealer can make some kind of adjustment if
necessary. Always use the lock out key when threading. The reason
I say this is because I have had this problem in the past. This
is a beautiful machine, you will get "there", Claire S

I forgot to mention I thought the FrouFrou purse was so cute on sewsweetness site. I saved the pattern but I think it’s too big

Thanks Ceil. I think the Park West would be too big for me too. I use a cross body backpack type purse now, and often just a little pouch purse that holds my phone and a cloth “receipt keeper” that has two pockets, one for credit cards. Fun to make and good holiday gift: http://aroundthebobbin.com/receipt-holder-tutorial/
Your story is so funny, and it’s nice she gave you a compliment. It’s a very pretty purse!
I love that StudioKat site. Thanks for the link. I like the Gadabout, and I noticed you get a free purse insert pattern when you buy a bag pattern there. I’m going to look closely at some of the other patterns too.
Hopefully our OT chat will let people know the evils of Connecting Threads so they don’t get chewed out by their dealer, lol! Btw they sell that thread on Amazon and other places as well so it’s important to look closely to see what thread you’re buying. I think I bought a bundle there because when I tried to get a credit from CT for it they said I only bought 2 spools. My sewing studio was so dusty from it! My PC was really clogged and it may have helped it die a slow death even with frequent cleaning. Cas

Ceil J
Deb,
Nosy is good! We'd never learn without it! Re: Connecting Threads material- I found them to be very inconsistent in quality ranging from very poor with a loose weave, plastic-like printing, and fading to just okay. I thought they were a great buy too but you can get good buys at Joann's too but the quality just doesn't compare to most of the major companies. Once I bought some nice fabric lines such as Moda I could tell the difference right away. If I'm going to make something nice, something I've spent my precious time on, I don't want to use fabric that won't give me great results. I did find that some of their batiks worked fine, but life's getting too short for me to waste time taking chances. Now I buy fabric when I know it's going to be quality. I'm not saying it's all or mostly junk, and they have introduced some new lines with designers who likely would not risk their reputation on junky fabric. You can always buy samples and test them too as their charm packs are very inexpensive.

Re: My 15000 won’t sew with polyester thread
Pixey
You don’t say if it is a new spool or all spools. If it is a new-ish spool, check it to make sure the thread isn’t cross wound or got knotted up in the winding process. I was having trouble with a spool of Gutermann on my 6600 the other day and realized it wasn’t feeding right. Got the end untwisted and unwound a few feet and it sewing fine from there on out.
I was also having thread issues with my serger and it turned out to be needle problems. Regards, Pixey Sent from my iPad

Hoop with Magnets
Cynthia Dickerson
One more question, I am left handed and I am finding the magnets hard to get on. How do you put yours on. Do you do push on the tip first and then push it the rest of the way on? Do the push from the outside bottom hoop to the inside or do you push from the inside of the hoop to the outside? I just can't seem to find a comfortable way to do this. Just wondering how everyone else handles this. Thanks for any answers.

Ceil, I have used Connecting Threads fabric in the past but haven't in a long time. I thought that they were a pretty good buy. I am just curious as to why you don't use them any more, did you have a problem?

Stitch Composer
Cynthia Dickerson
I just purchased the new Janome Memory Quilt 15000. I downloaded the Horizon Link software. It is Version 1.31. When I go into Stitch Composer, I do not have a finish button. Can someone tell me what I need to do. My machine should be fully upgraded, I assume since it is brand new. Thank you for any help.

Re: My 15000 won’t sew with polyester thread
Maria Morrow <mariamorrowquilter@...>
Thank you everyone for input on the thread. I had a very experienced friend look at it today. She felt it is a tension issue because it jams all up in the bobbin. Then when I could get it going a bit, once every now and then, well then the top thread shows on the bottom. I tried adjusting tension in settings one number at a time both plus and minus and it did nothing about the thread showing.

I’m taking it in to the wonderful dealer in Harahan, LA, “All About Sewing” tomorrow. He said he will sit with me and determine if it’s the machine (or me—he didn’t say that though). I am open to the possibility that as a 1-year sewist, it could be me. However, For the first 6 months I’ve had thr 15000, it sewed fine with these same threads. So really, I don’t think it’s me. Anyway, I appreciate the input. I’m going to try various threads tonight and take him samples tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone
