Look make it easy on your self. Go to the index in the back of what ever manual for your machine you are using for the 15000. Look up. Applique (Ordinary Sewing Mode). That is the information you need for your foot to lift. Forget about the knee lift. The button on the front of the Mach. The foot lift on the back of the machine. This is what you need to use.

HorizonLink Update and Windows 10

I got my 15000 upgraded a few weeks back but have been consumed by some things at work and have been using my 500E for a t-shirt embroidery embellishment project. So I have not had a chance to test the physical aspects of the upgrade. May try to do it this weekend, with fingers crossed. I mainly did it for the new Ruler foot features. I’ve been following some of the struggles people have been having with the HorizonLink update and Windows 10 (which I have on my laptop) and have a question. I’ve downloaded the update and saved it, but do I have to go ahead and install the update? Or can I continue to use my current version of HL? I don’t tend to connect directly to the machine wirelessly...prefer to use USB drives to transfer designs. What other things will I be missing out on if I delay doing the software update? The number of people having trouble is very small. Those who got it upgraded successfully don't bother to post, so you only see the ones with problems. If you are worried about the update breaking HLS, make a full backup of your computer first. I prefer using an image backup, with Acronis being the best one. With an image backup you can restore everything back exactly as it was at the time of the backup. |

I have a bunch of designs I want to convert to Jef. I have Sew What Pro, but it didn’t seem to work. I was able to drag and drop them into the box, but when I clicked convert, nothing happened. I wrote to the company and they said they didn’t know what went wrong, and hadn’t had any other complaints. Does anyone have any ideas what I did wrong? The designs are in dst; does that make a difference? I could save them as jef one at a time, but it seems like a lot of unnecessary work. Thanks. Sue Raabe

There is a time lag in allowing the 15000 to raise automatically. You can turn this feature off and then I think the knee lifter would do what you want. I can’t be sure, as my machine is in for service.

Good question! He didn’t move the port he only rotated it clockwise so that the knee lifter is now angled more toward your leg. It’s hard to describe without pictures and I don’t own the machine anymore. It worked great for many of us short sewists. |

Janome Knee Lifter

Since there is so much talk on the knee lifter, I have a question. I am going from the Janome 10,000 to the Janome 15,000 quiltmaker. When I did applique with the 10,000, I could just touch the knee lifter and raise it a hair when I appliqued to make adjustments as I sewed. This way my applique always looked flawless. All I can find now is if you touch the knee lifter it raises the knee lifter all the way up. For me, this is a pain and does not produce as nice of applique sewing as the old knee lifter and really now I have no purpose for it. If I have to stop each time I want to make a tiny adjustment, the foot raises anyway. Am I missing an adjustment somewhere that will allow me to judge the way I want my knee lifter to raise when I am appliqueing? Please, please someone tell me yes!! No need to use the knee lift at all on the 15000. It can raise the foot automatically for pivoting. See pages 38 and 104 in the instruction book. |

I'm not a metallurgist, but it might be worth taking the knee lifter to a machine shop and see if it could be bent a bit. That combined with the pool noodle might work for you.

I’m 4 ft 10 and most of it is legs so I’m very short when sitting. I bought the adjustable knee lift fir my 6600. It has a different angle in the lower part and a connection piece that enables it to be adjusted so white handkerchief is closer to the left or further away. I was never able to use the original but this new style works for me. My S9 came with the new one so I can use my knee/ leg with both machines.

Ok thanks! I did it right the first time then. I was looking under EmbLink tool and kept seeing 1.30 . OH well, maybe I cleaned some extra files off the PC. J

Anne, thank you for asking the question. I didn’t understand how the port could be moved, either. I’m 5’ 2.5” (use to be 5’ 3”) and can’t reach it. A couple ports would be a great idea. I’m not sure the pool noodle would even be thick enough but I’m willing to try it.

Faviola I'm curious to know what exactly the tech did to your 6600. I can't see how adjusting the port on the 15000 would make it easier to reach the knee lift as where ever it reaches from it's current position it would be too far away for me. The port itself would need to be moved to the left 2 or 3 inches in order for me to reach the knee lift comfortably. Now if they put a couple of ports on the machine - at different places - for placement of the knee lift that would be a big improvement! :0) I'm only 4ft 11ins and always have such issues. I must get round to trying the 'fixes' with the pool aids other people have mentioned. Ella, if you simply want to convert stitch formats, for example Brother Pes format, Husqvarna Hus format to Jef, all you need is an editing program, there are a couple of free ones. http://www.wingsxp.com/index.php/my_editor/ https://www.wilcom.com/en-us/products/truesizerproducts.aspx There are several purchasable ones, one I like is Sew What pro, a no fuss, no frills, affordable editor, http://sandscomputing.com/products-shop/ They also sell a range of embroidery related programs, well worth looking at. Another program, https://www.embird.net/ is Embird manager/editor, you can add various plug ins as you become more adept at using it. If however you want to create your own designs you will need a full digitising suite, and they don't come cheap, they are extremely powerful CAD based programs, the ones I use as they suit my user interface preference are Wilcom's Janome MBX version 5, (Janome USA did remove it from dealers ordering lists, but it is back on them again, as Janome Japan makes the decisions) Hatch version 1 and Wilcom's Embroidery Studio version 3. I also use Embird Studio, and Generations Plus, the latest version. However neither of these really suit my preference for a single screen usage. I do not like having to move between a digitiser then an editor to alter things or create in a digitiser then move to an editor to create different formats, and the Wilcom software, MBX and Hatch doesn't impose a need to move from one module to another to do what I want. Appliqué fix I don’t usually post but I have been waiting for someone to mention the “foot lift”. Page 28 in the new update book, # 3. This is not new. This came on the very first 15000. You stop sewing, the needle goes into the fabric and the foot lifts. You start sewing the foot drops. You stop it lifts.
Best appliqué help ever. |
