Re: SewIconz

Yes, thanks.  It was listed under FAQ.  I had looked under support previously.

http://sandscomputing.com/faqs/

Here is the info:

SewIconz

Q I installed SewIconz on my Windows computer and the icons don’t display – what did I do wrong?
A SewIconz works on Windows computers running XP and above. If you don’t see icons, download the File Association cleaner file here and run the registry cleaner file by extracting it from the zip file and double-clicking it. Then reselect the file types in SewIconz and click “OK”.

Go back to their website and find the FAQ page,  then find the SewIconz section they answer for your icons showing HL is answered in the first question.   “Q I installed SewIconz on my Windows computer and the icons don’t display – what did I do wrong?

That will take care of the need to open every file!!!!

Thanks Vikki,

The icons are back to normal and the preview is there but now there is an additional step when I click on a design, I must select which program to open.  Every time.  If I try to use emblink as the default all my files  look like my Janome icon.

I’ll just do it that way because I don’t feel like fighting with it any more today.  It’s 3 here now and I finally am embroidering something.  I had to set up my machine again too.  Even though it could see it the design would not “send”.

One of those days.

I have contacted them in the past when I had the same issue you had regarding the file associations issue. When I ran the file they sent, it didn’t fix it so I called them back and they took control of my machine and spent a good 15 minutes and actually had to edit some fields in the registry. Have had no problems since then.

If anyone is following my issues today …

Sandscomputing.com emailed me right back and sent a file for me to clear registry of file associations.  I then ran SewIconz again and it’s fine now.

Highly recommend them!

SewIconz

Does anyone who uses SewIconz know how to make it work in Win10?  Now I have to open every file to see what it is.

Jim, I finally got the assoc set up and my embroidery files will open in HL, but when I was messing it up trying to get it to work I changed the way they look and now they all look like the HL icon instead of being able to see what the file looks like.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling SewIconz and selecting all file types to be shown  with it, but it didn’t work.

Re: Win10 and HL

Cas <cas@...>

Thanks Jim for explaining the different folders.  I wondered why there were two.  I tried to associate the file before I wrote here for help but I can’t find the “executable” folder.  So, just now I tried to set defaults by extension type.  I found .jef extension and Acufil was the only program available.  I selected that and now I can’t even see the designs in my document folder (I use SewIconz to display them), and they still won’t open.  I don’t know how to get Acufuil out of the default.

I tried repairing HL hoping another option would show up as a default program, but that didn’t work either.

I agree there should be more help files.  I gave up trying before, months ago, but now I want to embroider so I’m trying to get it to work the way it used to.

*sigh*

Ever since I upgraded to Win10 my designs will not open. I have to go find Horizon Link which is installed in Program Files (x86)/Janome and open it and then go look for the design. I also have another folder called Program Files. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that is the location it chose. Can anyone help me figure it out?

Thanks, Cas

Windows 10 is 64-bit, but Janome (and a lot of other companies) releases all their software as 32-bit. Programs that are 64-bit go in the "Program Files" folder, while 32-bit programs go to "Program Files (x86)". The problem you are having is caused by Windows having lost the association of the JEF format with HorizonLink. This is a constant problem since Windows 1.0. This page explains how to fix the file associations:

If that doesn't solve the problem Google "Windows 10 fix file associations" to get a ton of other sites with similar fixes. It's interesting to note that Microsoft isn't even one of the top 10 sites with help, even though the number of hits in search would suggest that this is a very big problem for lots of people.

My Janome 12000 mail is going into trash, I wonder why, how can I stop it?

Trash or Junk Mail? There is a difference. It's probably going to junk mail. Most email programs will stop doing that if you add  janome12000@... to your contacts.

Re: Machine updates - USB 2 or 3

I found it in the directions for the S9 update, right after I sent the email. I can use either a USB 2 or 3.

I haven't used the embroidery hoops for my S9 yet. Thanks to Jim's post I found that there is an update for my S9. Which type of USB flash drive is best to use USB 2 or 3?

Use USB 2. USB 3 will also work as long as it will work on USB 1 as well.

I've rethreaded the upper thread many times, as I matched the color thread to the fabric.  I will try doing that to the bobbin.  Hopefully that will work!

Janome 14000 Updates?

Ann

Jim, you were talking about updates for the 15000, would they be for the 14000 also?

I must be losing it, because I don't recall talking about updates to the 15000. Hopefully the machine would reject any attempt to install a 15000 update on a 14000, but there have been incidents in the past where that type of mistake has caused problems. There are currently no updates to the 14000. If you want to monitor the web for them focus on this page:

I would unthread and rethread the needle thread and remove and replace the bobbin to be sure everything is threaded and seated right.

I’m doing some applique and using the blanket stitch (on my S9) around each piece. The tensions was so out of wack that all you can see is the bobbin thread. I manually changed the tension and had to make my blanket stitch a bit long and a bit deeper than I originally planned and that almost did the job, however, in between stitches you can still see a bit of bobbin thread being pulled through. Then I turn the machine off and on again, did a straight stitch with everything set to default. Again, you can still see a bit of the bobbing thread pulling up. I played with the plus and minus, and nothing helped. Do I have to go back for service???

Service might be required, but if everything else is working fine I would try reducing the needle tension a bit and using a light tearaway stabilizer behind the fabric.

Re: Jim's apps

Cas <cas@...>

Well, I’m glad there are bundles, sorry it’s causing issues though. I always find iPad confusing and it took me a while to figure it out. I had to click the option to purchase the bundle and I was scared I would be buying everything again, but it had the reduced price right by the bundle so it calculated the discount and when I went to purchases the only new purchase was the Quilt app at the reduced price of $$ (for the 15000 Bundle).

So, if anyone else goes to add on, I hope this helps. It looks like you are buying the complete bundle, but you will only be charged for the missing parts.

Re: Jim's apps

Jim Stutsman

I am removing pricing from all app-related posts because it varies a great deal by region, currency conversion, tax, and other factors. This creates a great deal of confusion and upset, and I think we've had enough of that to last a while.

Quilt in the Hoop is a tool for laying out quilts and it provides designs to allow them to be pieced and optionally quilted in the embroidery hoop. You can add your own designs as you wish, because once it goes to the machine it's no longer under app control.

For new owners of the app I would suggest the best way to learn how to use it would be the Spring 2017 Mystery Quilt. This series of videos has been helpful for a lot of people, and will be the default for "Learn by Doing" in version 3.1 of the app which should be coming soon. You can find the videos in our YouTube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMWkgKRjQQbeuwNS8hfMuQQ

Start with videos 1-4, then the Final Layout followed by Construction. There's not much mystery any more, but the project is easy and fun and will show you exactly what to do.

AcuFil Software for 500e

cdwhite2012@...

I am not able to get the AcuFil Tool to work on my Win10 laptop.  I have installed per instructions, but I see that it only lists up to Win 8.1.

Does anyone know if I need to download an update or driver or ? to get the program to work?  The icons are grayed out.  I tried to open an afl design to work with, but message says no files are installed.

I am a newbie with Janome and don't have any knowledgeable person w/Janome to guife me.

There's always a learning curve and not always support available.  Perhaps Jim S. can shed some light on this issue?

AcuFil Tool

I'm guessing that the .AFL file you tried to open came from the AcuFil Tool in HorizonLink Suite. The standalone AcuFil Tool does not use AFL files. The necessary information is part of the JPX files that this tool creates. Until you have started a new design the icons will be grayed out. It is fully compatible with Windows 10.

I am a little confused I have the 15000 app and the foot book app I am trying to purchase the quilt in the hoop app I have selected the complete my bundle but cannot find where to order, also you said in one message that it was under $9 .00american which converts to $11.50,Aus but is quoted at $41.50
Thanks for any help you can give Lynn Muir

Please refer to the instructions on this page:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201162
Near the top of the page there are two boxes, one for completing on a Mac or PC, the other for using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. In the case of Quilt in the Hoop you should use only an iPad 2 or later, as it will not work on iPhone, iPod Touch, or the first generation iPad. Once you have clicked or tapped on the appropriate box the page will scroll to the appropriate area listing the steps.

Please note that the option will only apply to apps that were all bought using the same Apple ID. If any of them were gifts it will not apply and only the full price option will be available. Virtually ALL aspects of this option are managed by Apple and we have no control at all over how it is done. If it doesn't work we cannot help, but you can get help here:
Click or tap "More Products" and then "Apps".

With regard to pricing in various currencies all I can say is that this is set by Apple. Trying to convert savings from USD to AUD will not be properly reflected because of other factors like VAT. We can only set a price "tier" and Apple manages the currency conversions, taxes, credit cards and all the rest. For that they keep 30% of the price.
