new owner!

Vickie

I picked up my new 12000 last Thursday! Can I just say that this machine is totally awesome! I am so thrilled with this. I also have the 11000, which is going to my sister. The only problem I had with installing the Horizon Link (on my MAC using VMWare Fusion) is that the DVD states that when you hook up the machine to the computer, it will automatically download the driver....not the case. But a quick call to my dealer and I was off to the races. I quilted three blocks in a table runner using an embroidery design and I am amazed at how quickly it did the job. Not a single hiccup! I am so glad I made the leap (and so grateful for my husband's insistence that I get it)!

Thank you to everyone here for your helpful posts and to Jim Stutsman for setting this group up. It would be nice if Janome actually produced a user manual for the Horizon Link. I haven't had much time to play with it other than loading designs but I would like to learn to use it to it's fullest.

Question regarding stitch out

judyjanome <judyjanome@...>

I have the new Janome 12000. I did own the 11000 when it first came out. So I am familar with the quaility of this company. I also own the Viking Diamond. Recently when a friend and I took a road trip we both purchased the 12000. Our first project was a in the hoop christmas tree. We both used WSS (aqua magic), Robinson Anton thread both in the needle and bobbin case. She used the bobbin with the yellow dot, I FORGOT and used the regular case. We started out with the janome red needle and stitched to the blue. The outcome for both of us was less that perfect as we both had the thread sucked down into the bobbin case while doing the satin stitches. After cleaning the bobbin case out it would work for some time only to have the same thing happen again. Also forgot to mention we used the batting which was recommended for the project. I also stitched this out on my other machine without the thread being pulled to the bobbin case. My dealer is 6 hours away and I have been trying to call Janome but they are in training today. I love this machine and I am sure the both of my machines will compliment each other. I am going to post pictures. They look beautiful but I just want to figure out why this is happening. Judy

I'm sure that's probably true.

Just wondered if it was out yet.  At the moment I don't even have my machine as my dealer is either repairing or replacing mine. :(

Would love it when I get my machine back or a replacement, I could also pick up the upgrade since I'm an hour away.  But he said he could mail it to me once it comes in the store.

I have a really nice dealer and he has been working with me on the issues with my machine.

Here's what I think has happened. This is only my opinion, as I have no way of knowing the facts.

In September at Janome Institute I learned that the Digitizer MBX update was in the warehouse in Australia, ready to ship. Janome then had to order the product and have it shipped to Japan. Then the various country offices ordered from Japan. Orders don't get shipped until a sea container is full. That means enough other stuff has to be ordered to get the container full. Then it hits the water, sails to the US, and goes through Customs. All this can take a few weeks. Then Janome fills the orders that were placed at Janome Institute. Most likely they only ordered enough product to cover the orders from Institute, but not much more. Only a lot of dealers didn't order at Institute, because they wanted to have an idea how many of their customers would want to upgrade. So the first shipment was instantly sold out, starting another wait for another container.

This process is as frustrating for dealers as it is for their customers. It's even worse for small dealers, because backorders get filled for the top dealers first. This whole procedure has never made sense to me, especially since Toyota has shown other Japanese companies how to get car parts from Japan to the US within 4 hours of going into a car!

Bottom line - don't be mad at your dealer. It's not his/her fault!

Thanks, Jim, I was wondering if it was something like that... shipping.  I ordered the MBX upgrade from Digitizer Jr on Oct 1-- I just talked to my dealer last week and he is still waiting for them too.  He hadn't even been notified that they are coming soon.  Frustrating for all involved.

I worked for Janome many years ago and was one of the first to sell the MC6000 when it forst came out, in fact I sold two before we had them in the shop.....I bought one myself, it was a brilliant machine. Eventually I swapped it for the MC8000 which I later sold to a friend and it is still going strong it mudt be getting on for 20 years old now.

I am hoping to get my hands on the new 12000, I have to sell my 11000 first.......

Hi Cheryl
I have just ordered my 12000 and only joined the group last week.
Your mention of the MC 6000 caught my eye! As I also have one that I bought 27 years ago - and she is still with me!.

Cheers

Hi,

I just joined the group this morning. I am the grandmother of 10 and soon to be 11. I don't sew all the time but probably think about it more than anything else. I have been a Janome customer for over 25 years, starting with the MC6000, which is in my daughter's sewing room. My next machine was the MC10000 and that I traded for the MC11000. Now I have the newest the MC12000.

My machine is almost a month old and I just love it. It does great on quilts, my first embroidery project. It sews like a dream and is so quiet. I am learning more about it each time I go to sew.

I also enjoy digitizing and have purchased the upgrade to Digitizer MBX. I've done a few exercises, shared by our Janome Educator and now am going to stitch out the designs I've made - modified a bit to reflect Christmas rather than Janome, Digitizer and MBX. Good for the learning to change some things.

I will pop in with questions, when and as they arrive.

Re: Upgrading Did it

Well I did it
After spending 2 hours yesterday looking and playing with the 12000 again I have placed my order for it. The $8,000 also includes the 3160, trolley bag and two ?DVD / programs with more embroidery designs. Will be about a week till I get it. Paid a deposit and I was given the 3160 to bring home today. The 12000 without the embroidery attacmenrt will fit in my Horizon 7700 table which is great - and I have had a table top insert made for the table and extension behind so will be able to put complete unit on this table too.
Can't wait

I traded in a 6 month old 11000 and also got a 3160 for my "class" machine. My dealer also gave it to me as part of the deal, along with exchanging my 24x32 sew steady table for one that fits the 12000, and I traded in a roller bag for my 11000 for a smaller one to fit the 3160 with no price difference (he should have made money on it because it was about $130 when I bought it and I only used it twice and the retail for the new bag was $70). He was pretty insistent that that would be the machine I would want for classes. I was willing to take a lesser model, but he didn't think I'd be happy and didn't even really quote me a price for anything else. If you figure that supposedly you can get the 12000 for $9000 ($12,000 retail) and the 3160 is $699 (supposedly $1000 retail), I got about $3500 for my 11000. I paid $5000 for it, which unfortunately was more than I should have. I bought it at a different dealer, and I found out later that the dealer I bought the 12000 from was selling it for $3800 at the same time I bought mine. So I lost some money in the deal but that was mostly because I paid too much for the 11000 to begin with. Oh, also got 48 mos. 0% financing.

Re: Tension problems for Ordinary Sewing

m1955seamstress

Hi,
Just an update here.  I took my 12000 into the dealer's store this morning.  A lady who works for the owner stitched out some decorative stitches as well as the zig zag and saw the same thing I was experiencing.  She changed the bobbin case and it helped somewhat but still problems.  She used stabilizer underneath the cotton fabric and still some tension issues.

I had to leave the machine as the owner who does the repairs was not in yet.  Hopefully, it will be something simple he needs to adjust.  Otherwise, they will have to ship it back to Janome.  If that's the case, looks like they will replace it with another one.  If they replace the machine with another one, I'm going to have them test drive the new one before I take it home.

That mark is just a dab of material used to lock the screw in place. You can still turn it, but they put that on there as a preventative to keep the screw from turning from vibration. It's kind of a belt+suspenders thing, but that's how Janome rolls.

I have the all of the Janome software on my MAC using VMware Fusion the only one that I have not been able to get to work is the Artistic Suite. I'm using it on XP because it doesn't take up as much space and as long as all of the Janome programs still work with XP I'll stick with it.
