Marla,
I don't know what your machine does, but my 15000 WILL NOT thread if I don't have the lock engaged. I have had everything ready to go (unlocked of course) pushed the needle threader button, and the machine tells me off. So I've held the thread so that it isn't slack, locked and tried to thread. Mine at this time will not thread the needle but it does go through the motions, but it just doesn't catch. I've taken the thread out started from scratch, but still no go. I have resorted to using eye strain and threading the good old fashioned way - by hand. Don't let your dealer bully you, as I really believe that if your machine engaged the threader when it wasn't locked, THAT would have been the mistake - a problem with the machine not you. I'm complaining but really shouldn't as I haven't gone in to my dealer and discussed this with the technician that got the 10 out of 10 to work a month or so ago. I've heard that there was to be a fix or improvement for the threader, but don't know if that is just a rumour or not. Cheryl - Saskatoon

Re: 4"x4" hoop for the 15000 and wasted fabricThu Oct 9, 2014 10:22 am (PDT) . Posted by:"HEATHER COWAN" hac2213I use mostly tear away stabilizer in 50 yard rolls. It is very economical. I do use wash away for DSL and cut away for t shirts. No matter which stabilizer I use I do NOT hoop my fabric as it stretches it and causes puckers IMHO. I hoop the stabilizer and mark the cross hair with a washable marker. I starch my fabric unless it is a fabric which is not suitable like suede or velvet. I lay the fabric on the stabilizer matching the crosshairs and temporarily use one small straight pin on each side to hold fabric in place. Being careful to not stitch over the pins I use the baste stitch to tack it down to the stabilizer removing the pins as I go. This method works very well for me and no wasted fabric. I figure if this method wasn't a good idea there wouldn't be a built in baste stitch in the machine. I avoid hoop burn and puckers and save fabric. I like the
janome hoops ... But worry about the torque on the Center pin after a lot of use ..... Any problems??? Heather Heather, 1) I follow the same procedure for hooping as you do. 2) I also made the large hoops "smaller" with an inner fabric hoop to save wasting stabilizer. And 3) I baste left over pieces of stabilizer until they
are large enough to hoop or to fill holes in larger pieces. All these techniques work well for me. Linda

I cut a square out of the center and use a glue stick to attach additional layers of stabilizer for embroidery. It is quite labor intensive and time consuming. I'm retired and now I make items for craft shows as a ‘part time’ job and would really appreciate a more efficient way of doing things. The 4” x 4” hoop is not a new concept for Janome. I just wish they would make it for the 15000.

Yes, the holder was made for the 12000. It would also work for the 15000 since both machines use the same hoops.

Anne, I made a fabric insert for the SQ23 hoop, and it worked just fine. I basted the stabilizer to it with no problem. I haven't used it since buying the RE18 but maybe I'll make one to fit the RE 18 or the SQ14 to make a 4 by 4 space. Basting and removing the thread was easy as I used my Juki which has a 6mm stitch length. (I don't understand why the Janome machine can't do that!) But isn't it both somewhat sad and funny that we always want more, more, more? That's what keeps our economy going, I guess. Hi, I'm back! My machine is at the dealer and I talked with the daughter today. She indicated her dad who does the repairs had to order something for my automatic threader. She kind of indicated that they are thinking I must have used it without locking it. I'm not saying I couldn't have made a mistake and not locked it but questioned her because I thought the machine prompted me to lock it first. She says yes it should have but the 15000 is new and we are not used to locking it. Hmmm. They are very nice people but feel like they are saying it's my fault. Perhaps it is but whenever I have forgotten and touched that button for the threader it has beeped at me to lock. Could I ignore it and go ahead and use the threader?
Anyway, thinking this is going to cost me! And my dealer got my parts back together for the bobbin winder that I foolishly unscrewed! Guess he said some Bible verses outloud! His daughter says his Bible memorization came in handy yesterday. Oh my. I told her to tell him, I'm sorry I caused so much frustration! Again, think this is going to cost me! Ugh! Marla

Re: 4"x4" hoop for the 15000
Anne, That is pretty much what I mentioned in my previous e-mail.
Use your plastic grid to mark the hole in the middle & X & Y
Axis. Zig-Zag well around edge of hole, & especially mark l
where TOP is. Then use your UHU glue to iron smaller piece of
stabilizer to the permanent "stabilizer". Baste in the hoop before
embroidering. I sometimes iron a stabilizer piece to both top &
bottom of the permanent stabilizer if it will be a dense design.

If you cut your stabilizer in long strips... say you are cutting it for the 5 x 5 hoop and cut the width and then a long strip, you would be surprised how you can save stabilizer and get more from one strip then block pieces. Also if your design can be manipulated in the hoop so to raise it a little you get an extra inch of stabilizer if you are really worried about how much you use. Just an economical idea that I have used... Pat

My 15000 came with a 5 ½" x 5 ½" and then they made a 5 x 7. It seems to me that a 4 x 4 would have been a much better choice.

Yes, I do that all the time. I use a piece of sticky back stabilizer and cut a hole out leaving about a 1 inch trim of the sticky back then you just cut the stabilizer that you want to use to size and lay it on the sticky back. I baste around the design to hold everything in place. Sent from Windows Mail From: mdaniel@... [janome12000] Sent: Thursday, October 09, 2014 9:47 AM To: mdaniel@... dry. You can make a frame for all your hoops from muslin or light weight canvas to conserve stabilizer. I put a .pdf in the files section & there are also photos in Vicki Jo's Sewing Room. Sorry they are not in order but hopefully you will get the idea. A wonderful person named Lotta on Viking Gems list gave me permission to adapt for our hoops & share. She is a dynamo when it comes to problem-solving. Diane also came up with a somewhat similar method using duct tape. Not sure if it is in the files or not. Vicki Jo

Weighing in on this discussion: I personally like the 5 inch hoop on the 15000. So many of the so called 4x4 designs were a tight fit on a hoop of that size and I worried about the needle striking the edge. IMHO I would rather use extra stabilizer then have a strike against the hoop and cause machine damage resulting in a repair bill. Pat

This is my first Janome machine. I love the machine but the hoops are very wasteful for fabric and stabilizer. JoAnn Life's biggest decision is what you do

The 5x7 is quite large for baby onesies and other baby clothes. Since they make a 4x4 for some of the other models it seems they would automatically make one for the 15000. It’s the perfect size for small items.
