I attended a training session on Janome 12000 a few weeks ago and my dealer told us to always have the presser foot down when we use the threader. I think that engages the tension on the top thread

I had the same problem after I had the machine for a bit. Kept telling me
to lower the pressure foot. Dealer had me put Machine in sewing mode, remove emb. plate and put in sewing plate. Take a few stiches then reverse the process then the machine worked perfectly. It has

You cana sew with the embroidery unit attached but it MUST be closed or the machine will not sew and will tell you to close the arm. It's so cute:this machine has attitude!
